Mako Industries is seeking an experienced and results-driven Manager of Quality & HSE to lead the company’s quality, health, safety, and environmental programs. This position is responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving systems that ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and company standards.

The Manager of Quality & HSE will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and senior leadership to promote a strong culture of quality, safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Management
  • Lead and maintain the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve quality policies, procedures, standards, and processes.
  • Ensure products and services meet customer, contractual, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
  • Establish and monitor quality objectives, KPIs, and performance metrics.
  • Manage internal, customer, supplier, and third-party quality audits.
  • Lead root-cause analysis, corrective actions, preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate customer complaints, nonconformances, and recurring quality issues.
  • Develop and maintain inspection, testing, documentation, and quality-control processes.
  • Work with Operations and Engineering to identify opportunities to reduce defects, rework, waste, and process variation.
  • Manage supplier quality performance and support supplier qualification and evaluation activities.
  • Ensure quality records and documentation are accurate, controlled, and maintained.
Health & Safety
  • Lead the development and implementation of Mako Industries’ Health & Safety programs.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA and other federal, state, and local safety requirements.
  • Conduct and coordinate workplace safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Identify hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Develop and maintain Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safe-work procedures.
  • Lead incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations.
  • Track safety performance and develop corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate employee safety training, including new-hire orientation and ongoing safety programs.
  • Promote employee engagement and accountability for safe work practices.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers to address unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Maintain emergency response, preparedness, and business-continuity procedures as applicable.
Environmental
  • Manage environmental compliance programs and ensure adherence to applicable regulations and permits.
  • Monitor environmental aspects of operations, including waste management, emissions, spills, chemical handling, and environmental reporting.
  • Coordinate required environmental inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Develop programs to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and minimize environmental impact.
  • Maintain appropriate environmental records and documentation.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with applicable regulatory, industry, customer, and certification requirements.
  • Prepare the organization for regulatory, customer, and certification audits.
  • Develop and maintain management-system documentation.
  • Analyze quality and HSE trends and provide recommendations to senior management.
  • Establish annual Quality and HSE goals and measurable performance objectives.
  • Lead continuous-improvement initiatives using tools such as root-cause analysis, corrective action, risk assessment, and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies where appropriate.
  • Provide regular reports and performance updates to company leadership.
  • Foster a culture where quality and safety are integrated into everyday operations rather than treated as separate functions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Quality, HSE, EHS, or a related manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading Quality and HSE programs.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and workplace safety practices.
  • Experience with quality-management systems, audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
  • Working knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with both management and frontline personnel.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality/safety management systems.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field
