Title and Summary
Manager, Product Development
At Mastercard, our mission is to make payments easy, fast and as secure as possible. That's why our team developed technology that enables mobile contactless payments and secure, tokenized online payments - taking the world of payments beyond plastic. We've experienced incredible success and growth, with over a billion transactions processed each week. However now we are focusing on ensuring the success continues as we scale digital payments even further and deliver new innovative products to customers and consumers.
Our focus is on the best possible customer experience. We're making our digital products more accessible to issuer customers, simplifying the way they incorporate features in their mobile apps and integrate with Mastercard, so they can reduce their investments and increase speed to market when launching digital payment products for their cardholders. We are also innovating and exploring new products and services beyond the payment to provide an even better consumer experience when using a Mastercard card or mobile wallet to pay. This is why we're searching for a new team member with first-hand experience of digital payment product development and a track record of innovation. You will have the boundless energy, enthusiasm and drive to deliver the future of digital payments to our customers and their cardholders.
As Manager, Product Development for the Authentication Program Digital Innovation team you will:
- research external requirements, such as regulatory requirements or local standards, that impact our products that are typically deployed globally and must comply with local laws and practice;
- collect and present data to support new feature proposals, ensuring product strategy decisions are based on empirical data rather than purely being great ideas;
- define customer experience and consumer user journeys to support product definition, collecting and incorporating feedback to ensure optimized features that really meet customer and cardholder needs;
- assess the impact of proposed new features existing the existing product or other products such that investment decisions may be made by the team, or by the wider management and executive;
- own the product feature backlog to be delivered by a small collaborative team of product managers and software engineers, often working with external vendors to deliver proof-of-concepts;
- apply best practices from previous industry experience whilst following our internal product development lifecycle and other in-house processes;
- develop customer-facing product documentation that, whilst often technical in nature, needs to reach a non-technical, business-oriented audience worldwide;
- represent your team and product sharing progress in regular working-level forums;
- participate and contribute to the Product Guild to share experiences, learn best practices and develop new skills.
You should apply if:
- you are currently working as a product manager with an agile team delivering native mobile apps on iPhone and Android; or server-side, backend application products deployed in public cloud;
- you're comfortable working in a team that's exploring and defining new ways of working;
- you enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with your colleagues;
- you have defined and delivered technology products deployed into cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud;
- you're skilled in market analysis and product feature definition, and articulating the value of product features;
- you're currently using generative AI to bring efficiencies across the whole product development journey;
- you are fluent in English, both verbally and in written form - high quality documentation is a key driver of successful customer outcomes;
- you're excited to deliver applications that have global impact and are used daily by 100s of millions of people.
It would also be great if:
- you understand the card payment ecosystem - maybe from the perspective of a merchant, payment processor or a card issuer;
- you have used collaboration tools to manage your product evolution - we use Aha!, Confluence and JIRA;
- you have a foundation in computer science, algorithms, data structures, object-oriented development, cyber security, design patterns and core computer science concepts;
- you have a software engineering background, maybe having coded in previous roles and are comfortable interpreting technical designs, data models, and application code;
- you may have previous first-hand experience delivering products that use a wide range of technologies - apps on iOS and Android, databases, messaging, caches, API gateways, networking, pipelines, cryptography, HSMs - and preferably the products we use such as Jenkins, Splunk, Oracle, Apache Kafka, Redis and NATS.
Our teams and values:
- We work within small collaborative teams consisting of software engineers and product owners;
- our customer's success is at the core of what we do;
- we are diverse and inclusive teams from many backgrounds and with many experiences;
- we believe in doing well by doing good through inclusive growth and making ethical and environmentally responsible decisions.
The Digital Innovation team within the Authentication Program explores new concepts and does early-stage product development to assess feasibility, viability and desirability with internal and external stakeholders. Our remit is to look beyond the horizon to continue Mastercard's leadership position in digital payments well into the future.
