Primary Accountabilities:

Technical (80%)

  • Maintains secure configuration and accurate information, controlling IT assets in one or more significant areas and verifying the location and state of assets.

  • Understands core technical concepts related to their role and can apply them with guidance.

  • Investigate problems and opportunities in existing processes and contribute to recommending solutions to these. Works with stakeholders to identify objectives and potential benefits available.

  • Able to identify process optimization opportunities without needing guidance and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions.

  • Understands information security and the types of security controls that can mitigate security threats within solutions and services.

  • Owns an issue until a new owner has been found or the problem has been mitigated and/or resolved.

  • Able to investigate problems in systems, processes, and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem (e.g. strategic, tactical, operational). Can contribute to the implementation of remedies and preventative measures.

  • Identifies key stakeholders and relationships and works with teams to build these. Understands how to work with stakeholders and contribute to improving these relationships.

  • Sees the bigger picture by taking groups of services, and investigating how to get the best of underlying services.

  • Produces the relevant reports in a standard format in an agreed timeframe. Works with key stakeholders to discuss any changes in the reporting processes. Able to add a commentary that provides an interpretation of the data set.

  • Able to work within a strategic context and communicate how activities meet strategic goals. Contributes to the development of strategy and policies.

  • Able to review requirements, and specifications and define test conditions. Able to identify issues and risks associated with work while being able to analyze and report test activities and results for the team.

  • Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities.

  • Identifies and engages with users/stakeholders to collate user needs evidence and understands and defines research that fits user needs. Able to use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user focus into outcomes.


Administrative (20%)

Typical management duties such as:

  • Coaching and mentoring of team members

  • General project and resource management for your team

  • Identify training opportunities and skill advancement for the team

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, or a Bachelor of Arts Degree in a related technical field

  • 10-12+ years of related work experience in DevOps/Software Engineering or System Administration or any equivalent combination of experience and training/certification in platform maintenance and development

  • Strong experience with OS engineering (config, design, security), with particular focus on commands and scripting

  • Experience with complex and distributed systems over a range of technologies

  • Ability to adapt to various tools, technologies, and languages

  • Experience configuring and managing infrastructure components, particularly with IaC solutions

  • Awareness of Information Security protocols

  • Ability to communicate highly complex and technical information to non-technical stakeholders

Specific Technical Skills Desired:

Experience with the following technologies:

  • Containers and container orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) 

  • Configuration Management (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt)

  • Infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform, etc.)

  • Cloud technology (public and/or private) (GCP, AWS, Azure)

  • Scripting languages (bash, Python)

  • Networking knowledge 

  • Security knowledge
