About the Role:

The Manager, Nursing Competency & Education provides enterprise-wide leadership for nursing education, onboarding, competency validation, and professional development across all nursing disciplines. Reporting to the Vice President of Nursing, this role is responsible for standardizing nursing education, promoting evidence-based practice, and ensuring clinical competency across all sites.

The Manager partners closely with Nursing Leadership to design and implement orientation programs, annual competencies, and education initiatives that support high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, workforce readiness, and nursing excellence.


Key Responsibilities:  

As a Manager, Nursing Competency & Education, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and implement enterprise-wide nursing education, orientation, and professional development programs.
  • Maintain clinical competency through site-based engagement, staff mentorship, and workflow observation.
  • Develop and manage annual competency programs, including tracking, validation, and remediation.
  • Partner with leadership to standardize nursing practices, policies, and clinical workflows.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and post-incident education.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Support nursing leadership through coaching, onboarding, and team development.
  • Monitor and report on education, competency, and workforce metrics to drive continuous improvement.

Work Schedule: 

This is a full-time.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Education, Certifications, Experience, Skills, Language)

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of leadership/management experience required.
  • Minimum five years of progressive nursing experience.
  • Minimum two years of leadership, education, or staff development experience.
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • A track record of building diverse, high-performing teams and cross functional partnerships.
  • Prior experience in a social services or healthcare setting and/or a non-profit organization highly desirable.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under stress in a dynamic environment, managing patient care needs effectively.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in more than one language (e.g., Spanish/English) is beneficial for serving our diverse patient population.

Skills Required
