Job Description
The Manager, Media Planning, is responsible for leading a team of Media Planners to reach donors through advertising with the purpose of growing the fundraising efforts of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This individual will operationalize ALSAC Performance Marketing’s audience-led approach by planning across TV, social, programmatic, search, and emerging platforms. They will architect these plans to continually test and learn, considering the ever-changing privacy landscape, industry trends, and platform capabilities. As a people leader, they will grow and develop their team and exemplify ALSAC’s culture pillars in their day-to-day work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
1. Media Planning Strategy
- Collaborate with Go-To-Market Strategy, Media Activation, Creative + Content, and Analytics teams to develop and maintain processes for Media Planning in partnership with the Media Planning Director.
- Lead the development of technical strategies within media platforms and detailed tactical plans that translate the go-to-market strategy into tangible execution.
- Continually adapt to address the needs of Growth Marketing business objectives.
- Architect testing frameworks based on a learning agenda and the needs of the Enterprise (e.g. driving monthly donors, audience-led strategies, personalization, etc)
2. People Growth/Coaching
- Build, coach, and mentor a team of 3-6 high-performing performance media planners, subject matter experts, and/or coordinators.
- Delegate and prioritize work deliverables across team members.
- Recruit and retain talent.
- Influence own team and collaborates with other Managers and team members in Performance Marketing to drive growth, enhance best practices, and communicate change as needed.
- Identify incremental growth/development opportunities for team members (certifications, exchanges, etc.).
3. Storytelling, Communication & Reporting
- Lead the translation of media performance data into actionable insights and recommendations for new strategic approaches, media platform optimizations, and creative needs.
- Utilize a variety of tools for data aggregation, visualization, and decision making (Excel, Tableau, etc.).
- Create both thorough leave-behinds and executive summaries as needed.
4. Project Management/Meetings
- Demonstrate mastery of organizational skills and provide inspiration to others.
- Minimize effort and recreated projects by partnering with Project Management and Process Advisory team members.
5. Media Planning Best Practices
- Ensure Media Planning team maintains expert level of understanding of the ALSAC Performance Marketing AdTech stack along with systems integrations across the enterprise.
- Cultivate relationships with key technology partners to stay abreast of changes to their offerings and assessing alpha and beta opportunities.
- Maintain deep expertise in media industry trends and emerging platform/technologies.
- Issue RFIs as needed to vet relevant technologies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years planning multi-million dollar omnichannel media budgets.
- 3+ years hands on keyboard experience across search, social, and programmatic media buys. Above the line media planning experience a plus.
- 2+ years managing a team of at least 3 people a plus.
- Ability to understand and execute holistic digital strategies.
- Ability to lead and assist in coaching, managing, and educating Media Planners, yet not hesitant to roll up their sleeves and be a hands-on-keyboard practitioner.
- A collaborative, team-oriented manager with strong delegation and organizational skills.
- Expert written and verbal communication.
- Thorough understanding of differentiators across media buying platforms including but not limited to audience data, attribution methodology, forecasting capabilities, and fee structures.
- Excellent project management skills and proven track record of agile project management.
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for automation.
- Basic coding skills (Javascript, Python, R) a plus.
- Experience developing and presenting case studies to a variety of audiences across the enterprise.
