OVERVIEW:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager to join our Information Technology division at Alberta Blue Cross®. Reporting directly to the Director of IT Administration Technology Solutions, this position is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of mission-critical business applications, ensuring their operational excellence and high availability. The successful candidate will lead several teams of systems analysts, managed by team managers, driving a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and exceptional service delivery. This role requires a strategic leader with strong technical expertise and a commitment to supporting business objectives through the management of critical applications and services. As a manager of critical applications, this person will work closely with leaders across the organization to support the seamless delivery of key projects and contribute to initiatives aligned with corporate priorities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Be an inspirational leader and coach to build and retain high performing individuals and contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Lead with strong, values-based leadership, creating an open and supportive work environment where team members feel trusted, valued, and equipped for success.
  • Champion the well-being of team members, promoting work-life balance and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversee the end-to-end operational management of the applications portfolio, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, capacity, and service delivery and major incident management in a 24x7 environment, including participation in the on-call rotation.
  • Manage the performance of mission-critical applications and services, including change management and major incident response, ensuring alignment with business continuity goals.
  • Collaborate with team managers to recruit, mentor, and develop team members, building and retaining innovative, high-performing teams.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and promotes effective teamwork across IT and with business stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship, career development, and supervisory guidance to direct reports, supporting their growth and professional development.
  • Lead and/or support corporate and operational projects in alignment with corporate methodologies, ensuring successful and timely delivery of business solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and stakeholders to align technology solutions with business objectives.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with management at all levels, ensuring alignment with business goals and delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership experience managing application support teams, including resource management, hiring, performance evaluations, and training initiatives.
  • Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional projects and enterprise-level service delivery, with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Expertise in budgeting, planning, organizing, and delegating with strong decision-making abilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to make confident decisions in complex, high-stakes situations.
  • Adaptability to emerging technologies and ability to manage application modernization or cloud transformation initiatives would be beneficial.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical contexts, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to simplify and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with service management frameworks and operational governance, ensuring industry best practices are followed.
