What Global Risk Management contributes to Cardinal Health
Global Risk Management is responsible for implementing, administering and monitoring executive, property and casualty risk transfer and alternative risk financing programs to protect Cardinal Health’s assets.
Responsibilities
- This role reports to the Director, Global Risk Management and may have direct report(s).
- Manages domestic and international primary casualty commercial insurance programs (including the fronted miscellaneous professional liability) as well as the non-products umbrella. This involves the renewal of insurance policies, presentation of risk to insurance underwriters, negotiation of policy terms and conditions and compliance with country insurance regulations.
- Supports the completion of required insurance program renewal submissions and underwriting inquiries.
- Manages and directs insurance brokers in determining insurance policy renewal strategies, selecting insurance carriers, negotiating coverage and premium and placing insurance. Establishes relationships with worldwide insurance markets to ensure capacity for risk exposures.
- Provides the primary day-to-day support for the captive insurance company, works with an external captive manager and internal stakeholders. Manages and administers captive reinsurance arrangements and policies including strategic projects which may involve risk retention/group captive formation or other reinsurance arrangements.
- Works directly with actuaries to complete quarterly reserve analysis and communicates those results to internal stakeholders using established processes and procedures
- Prepares operational and risk management reports including overall insurance program costs, annual budgets/forecasts, and historical loss experience. Recommends risk management budget for insurance coverages managed and determines business unit allocations for premium and retained risk costs.
- Functions as a system administrator for the departmental RMIS .
- Performs due diligence activities for potential acquisitions, including analysis of risk exposures, policy language and presenting due diligence findings to senior management. Manages integration of acquired businesses into Company’s insurance programs.
- Identifies new risk exposures, consults, analyzes and classifies risks as to frequency and potential severity in order to recommend whether such risks are retained or transferred to third parties.
- Reviews contracts to mitigate risk by drafting and negotiating insurance provisions, limitation on liability and providing advice regarding indemnification obligations.
- Manages and/or participates in various risk management projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field such as Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent work experience, preferred
- 8+ years risk management experience and captive experience, preferred
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to make sound business judgements and decisions based on summary information. Ability to interpret applicable laws, regulations and contracts. Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to strategically plan and organize resources, orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal/project management and use resources effectively/efficiently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to summarize and analyze financial matters into clear, concise presentations (written and oral) for effectively interacting with various levels of management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Expert or Advanced Excel skills preferred; SAP experience preferred. Operational Excellence or Risk Management Information System experience with Origami is a plus.
- Relied upon to exceed goals successfully and to encourage self/others for results. Ability and enthusiasm to lead and mentor team members.
- Ability to deal comfortably with company senior leadership, to understand company strategic goals and articulate how Risk Management adds value.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from business partners, vendors, customers, and insurance underwriters. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic environment with deadlines.
