The Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will be the primary point of contact in facilitating all aspects of daily finance operations and inquiries for assigned business areas. Responsibilities include coordinating annual budget and forecast processes, preparing various reports for management review, approve daily financial workflow transactions, assist in monthly close process and variance analysis, and providing business advisory support. Position works closely with division leads in a fast-paced environment, delivering on goals and objectives along with manager’s oversight. Assist in preparing Executive Management reports and responding to other financial-related inquiries within the organization. Collaborate with other FP&A team members on ad hoc projects as needed.

Your Impact

Key Responsibilities

  • Budget and Forecast: Responsible for managing the budget, forecasts, and monthly close process for assigned business areas in collaboration with budget owners and other teams along with Manager’s supervision and guidance. (25%)

  • Month-end Process: Manage, prepare, and analyze monthly financial results and communicate with other FP&A team members on cross-divisional work progress. Work closely with the accounting team to help resolve any financial inquiries. Prepare adjustments and verify that all entries are recorded accurately and timely for assigned business areas. Coordinate with various teams on all revenue reporting as needed. (30%)

  • Provide daily financial support to business stakeholders at all levels. This includes reviewing and approving transactions in our financial and contracts management systems to ensure proper coding and alignment to planned budgets. (25%)

  • Participate in various projects on behalf of the FP&A team, such as contributing to process and system improvements, training, and ad hoc requests. (10%)

  • Provide reporting and analysis as requested from business areas, manager, and leadership to support decision-making. (10%)

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

5+ years of financial planning & analysis or accounting experience that includes interfacing with organizational leadership and working with various groups in an organization. Work experience includes providing financial training and knowledgeable guidance to non-financial stakeholders and providing analytical data insights to help facilitate business decision-making. Non-profit experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills Required

Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Basic knowledge of GAAP accounting rules, with nonprofit accounting a plus. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with the ability to use pivot tables and other advanced formulas. Familiarity with accounting and budget planning systems. Must have the ability to manage time and meet frequent deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. Able to work well independently and as part of a team.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

The salary range for this position is $102,600 - $108,000.

Job Designation

Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.
