Manager, Engineering

About the Role:
Every AI service, cloud provider, and SaaS tool produces billing data in its own messy, inconsistent format. We’re looking for someone to lead the team responsible for turning that chaos into clarity.

You’ll build and lead a small team (initially 3–4 engineers) focused on developing billing adapters for OpenAI, Anthropic, and dozens of other AI vendors. Think of it as the most financially impactful ETL pipeline you’ll ever build.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role at a fast-growing startup, working at the intersection of cutting-edge AI, cloud cost intelligence, and some of the best engineering teams in the world (our customers).

You Will:

• Lead a distributed team of sharp backend developers who ship code

• Architect data pipelines that don't break when vendors change everything

• overnight

• Design billing adapters that survive the vendor API apocalypse

• Collaborate with Product/Engineering to prioritize which integrations matter most

• Establish code quality standards that prevent 3 am production firefights

• Manage delivery timelines without becoming a meeting zombie

• Prototype new approaches for vendor integrations that don't suck

• Mentor developers who want to level up their distributed systems game

• Drive architecture decisions for the adapter framework that everyone will use

What You Bring:

• Cost management or FinOps platform experience

• AWS/GCP/Azure billing API knowledge

• Financial data processing background

• Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years Python - You've built systems that scale, not just scripts

  • 5+ years database experience - You design schemas that don't become technical debt

  • 3+ years leading distributed teams - Remote work isn't new to you

  • API integration battle scars - You've dealt with every vendor API antipattern

  • AWS expertise - Lambda, S3, and the data processing ecosystem

  • ETL/data transformation - You understand why schema changes break everything

  • Cloud cost management - You get why accuracy matters when millions are involved

  • SaaS platform architecture - You've built systems that handle real scale

• Leadership & Communication:

  • Proven track record leading small, focused development teams

  • Excellent communication - You can explain complex decisions, strategies, and problems clearly

  • Strong problem-solving - You debug systems and team dynamics

  • Independence - You can drive results without constant oversight
