Position Overview 

Coeur Mining Inc. is searching for a highly motivated and committed individual to direct and oversee the Owner’s Engineering Management functions for Silvertip.

Reporting to the Silvertip Senior Project Director, the Engineering Manager is accountable for engineering delivery of all project scope for the Silvertip Project and successful delivery and coordination of the Silvertip project engineering technical program from the current level of front-end-loading project development to an operating mine within a remote, Northern British Columbia, Canada underground mining environment.

The Engineering Manager role for Silvertip will interface with the General Manager- Operational Readiness, General Manager – Site Operations, a Silvertip Project Support role, and various corporate roles in Process Safety, Business Systems, and Risk. In addition, the Engineering Manager will interface with the Manager, Permitting, related to matters of technical information delivery to support the Silvertip permitting process.

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • Education requirement 
    • B.S. Engineering or Geology
    • Advanced degree or training highly regarded
  • Certification requirement
    • Professional designation (e.g. P.Eng)
    • Advanced engineering/engineering operations management experience in an Owner’s representative capacity and in an engineering management capacity within an EPCM/Consulting environment is highly desirable
  • Number of years of progressive experience required
    • Minimum of 15 progressive years of experience in major mining or heavy industrial projects, including significant technical leadership and coordination roles over large capital projects

Knowledge, Skills, Attributes

  • The Engineering Manager must have broad and well-rounded knowledge and demonstrated large and technically complex experience in multi-disciplined engineering design for studies and projects from concept to detailed design
  • The Engineering Manager must have a ‘hands-on’ mindset to be successful in this role
  • Areas of knowledge and capability include, but are not necessarily limited to:
    • Experience with design for operability, maintainability
    • Ability and aptitude to support the definition and execution of sampling test work into the project design
    • Design criteria and design criteria development and management experience
    • Development and delivery of multi-disciplined engineering and technical scope in the areas of mining, civil, buildings and services, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control systems

    • Ability to clearly articulate technical and engineering aspects of a study or project to internal and external team members and key stakeholders

    • This role requires the ability to work in both office and active project site environments, including occasional travel to operating or construction sites. Physical requirements may include extended periods of sitting and computer use, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or accessing elevated platforms, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection and high-visibility clothing. The position may involve exposure to varying weather conditions including cold climate conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction or industrial site environments, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards. e.g. restriction of movement, physical activities such as lifting or bending, working in uneasy positions

Skills Required

  • B.S. in Engineering or Geology
  • Professional designation (e.g., P.Eng)
  • Minimum of 15 years progressive experience in major mining or heavy industrial projects
  • Advanced degree or training
  • Advanced engineering/engineering operations management experience in an Owner's representative capacity
  • Engineering management experience within an EPCM/Consulting environment
  • Demonstrated multi-disciplined engineering design experience from concept to detailed design (mining, civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control)
  • Knowledge and experience with Stage-Gate processes, independent and peer review processes, and project engineering controls
  • Safety management experience and strong communications and stakeholder coordination skills
