Role Summary

The Manager, Employee Relations is responsible for executing all Employee Relations activities in support at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, the Manager, Employee Relations: sets priorities for the team, provides coaching regarding situational judgement, gives advisement, and consults with the business during the investigative process. This role will report to the Director of Employee Relations, Mediation, and Investigations and will work closely with the HR Business Partners, Legal, Labor, Compliance, DEI, and other groups to promote equity, company values, and accountability in the workplace and to respond timely, appropriately, and fairly to employee concerns.

Key Duties

  • Lead team and establish priorities to successfully resolve people issues and mitigate employment risks.
  • Execute strategy in partnership with Director, while providing advisement, and consultation with leaders regarding investigations and Employee Relations matters while utilizing practical strategies and best practices.
  • Make decisions relative to team member capacity and organizational priorities.
  • Develop people through effective performance management, delegation, timely feedback, stretch assignment identification, individual capacity, and time management.
  • Drive effective diversity, equity and inclusion practices to build a culture of belonging while actively supporting and executing on the company's D&I initiatives, goals and commitments.
  • Shape culture of team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
  • Cultivate constructive and collaborative relationships with critical stakeholders and peers to share information, influence change, and drive resolutions to improve the employee experience and leader capability.
  • Leverage insights to influence organization direction and to assist with employee situations that could have high organizational impact.
  • Develop and implement various policies, processes and programs including investigations, policy interpretation and sensitive work-related issues.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in Employee Relations & Human Resources.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing excellent judgement, influencing stakeholders, and in problem solving.
  • Innovative, apolitical, resilient, fact-based, and a creative solutions-focused mindset, with ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing, collaborative environment and to manage conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to seek out and incorporate feedback from all levels of the organization.
  • Experience designing and managing complex processes and projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products as well as common HR applications.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Knowledge of Employee Relations that covers a wide variety of employee needs and concerns, such as understanding local, state and federal laws, conflict and grievance resolution, policy application, and general Human Resources components.
  • Previous work experience with employees represented by a union.
  • In-depth experience in HR functional areas (generalist, Employee Relations, etc.).
  • Experience with communications and change management.

Salary Range

$113,200 - $169,800 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
