Title and Summary
Manager, Data Scientist
The Business Model & Regulatory Engagement manager: • Reports to the Vice President Strategy, Pricing & Interchange and works closely with the Business Model & Regulatory Engagement Director• Partners with country, pricing & interchange, and legal, public policy teams as well as external consultants to engage regulators on the topic of pricing and interchange. • Supports the development and execution of a LAC regulatory engagement strategies and external customer narratives as it relates to pricing and interchange with extensive data analysis and understanding to provide thoughtful insights to assist decision making • Advocates for, drives, and executes regulatory engagement efforts related to pricing or interchange with a view to ensuring the continued growth of the Mastercard network including a competitive value proposition to issuing and acquiring customers vs. other payment systems.• Provides input to pricing & interchange initiatives to ensure consistent value story for customers and regulators.
This role will be key across many (if not all) of the areas above in supporting the team developing of long range and strategic plans, narratives for external customer and regulatory engagement, identify strengths and weaknesses and business opportunities.
Reporting to the Vice President Strategy, Pricing & Interchange, the best fit candidate for the role will be a highly motivated, analytical, focused individual, who has experience in implementing corporate strategic initiatives and/or business plans, as well as extensive experience evaluating complex data sets and strategic initiatives, facilitating, influencing and contributing to design and advancement
Role:• Deep data analytics and understanding to provide thoughtful insights to assist decision making• Leads large and/or complex projects or work streams related to understanding current performance as well as risks and opportunities to ensure the sustainability of our business model and growth• Develops presentations for all levels of the organization starting with global and LAC executives, generates research insights, undertakes complex analysis to provide thought leadership and guidance for top decision makers• Called upon to develop Mastercard's position and narrative for external engagements with customers, regulators and policy makers at regional and national levels• Assists Business Model & Regulatory Engagement Director in identifying key issues, defining problem structures, evaluating options; and formulates underlying action plans to begin developing solutions• Contributes content and research insights to aid strategy leaders in advancing their solutions and works to ensure alignment with corporate strategy
All about you (requirements):• 6-8 years of experience in regulatory engagement related to financial and economic topics in the payments or other industries. • Analytical background in economics or finance.• Payment industry experience and/or understanding of economic literature related to 2-sided markets / platforms.• Background in strategy or economics consulting ideal. • Experience with financial/ economic modeling (e.g., P&L projections, Cost-benefit, ROI, etc.).• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to build alignment without direct authority; proven capabilities to influence others. • Ability to interact effectively across multiple functions, geographies, and levels within the company as well as with external customers and regulators.• Ability to communicate and present the value and role of pricing and interchange in a concise, professional manner for review by regulators, external customers, and internal teams.• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring that key messages are articulated. • Excellent project management skills with the ability to work on several projects simultaneously: motivated self-starter.• Advanced PC skills (Microsoft Office- must be intermediate to advanced in Excel and Access and proficient in PowerPoint and Word).• Ability to handle confidential information and materials with appropriate discretion.• Education: Bachelor's Degree required; Masters or PhD in Economics highly desirable.• Able to work independently with minimal direction. Will have considerable exposure to key regulators including Central Banks, Competition Authorities, and Banking and Financial sector Authorities across LAC. • Limited travel but required as needed.
