The Role

Job Description

The Manager of Credit and Payment Analytics is responsible for leading and developing a team of credit and payment analysts to support Nordstrom's credit portfolio and payments business. This role involves overseeing complex data analysis, credit risk strategies, and payments analytics to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks. The Manager will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to recommend and implement strategies that enhance customer experience and drive profitable growth. By leveraging data-driven insights, the Manager will inform financial models, business cases, and strategic decisions, ensuring the company meets its objectives while effectively managing risk exposure.

 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of credit and payment analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
    • Provide guidance and support to analysts in conducting data analysis, financial modeling, and reporting.
    • Set team goals aligned with organizational objectives and monitor performance.
  • Credit & Payments Analytics Oversight:
    • Oversee analytics related to effectiveness and profitability of underwriting, portfolio performance, payments, and marketing campaigns.
    • Support reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the credit portfolio and payments business.
    • Collaborate with IT and data engineering teams to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
    • Ensure the team utilizes advanced analytical techniques to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights.
  • Strategy Development & Implementation:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Credit, Finance, Marketing, Payments) to align analytics initiatives with business strategies.
    • Work closely with external partners, such as TD Bank, to influence strategies that drive profitable growth and manage risk.
    • Support decisions on payment initiatives to enhance acceptance rates, reduce tender fees, and mitigate fraud.
  • Reporting & Insights Management:
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of comprehensive reporting tools and dashboards to provide insights into the credit and payments business.
    • Ensure analysts produce accurate and timely reports that inform senior management and support strategic decision-making.
    • Evaluate and monitor partner performance reports, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and external partners.

 
Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in credit risk management, payment analytics, or related fields within the financial services or retail industry.
    • Proven experience leading and developing teams of data analysts.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of credit risk principles and the consumer credit card industry.
    • Knowledge of the payments industry, including payment processing, acceptance strategies, fraud prevention, and fee management.
    • Proficiency in analytical tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, BigQuery, SAS, Python, R) and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate findings into actionable business strategies.
    • Experience in developing financial models and forecasts.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities with a strategic and innovative mindset.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
    • Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Leadership Competencies:
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team towards achieving collective goals.
    • Experience in coaching and mentoring team members to meet their career objectives and enhance their skills.
    • Ability to make sound and timely decisions that align with organizational objectives and values.
    • Exhibits courage in addressing challenges and driving necessary changes.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Colorado: $105,000- $173,000 annually, Washington: $121,000- $199,000 annuallyThis position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
