About the RoleAt Gap, we are reimagining an iconic American brand for a new generation—grounded in our heritage of modern, optimistic style and driven by a renewed focus on product, storytelling, and cultural relevance.
The Gap Brand Communications team plays a critical role in bringing this transformation to life—connecting employees to our strategy, amplifying our product-first mindset, and ensuring a clear, consistent narrative across every touchpoint. We lead internal and executive communications, media relations, and employee experiences for headquarters employees, partnering closely with Marketing, Strategy, Investor Relations, Store Communications, and Global Corporate Affairs.
We are seeking a creative, strategic, and high-impact communications professional to help translate Gap’s next chapter into compelling stories, meaningful employee experiences, and clear business communications.
This role is based in New York City (TriBeCa) and reports to the Director of Communications, supporting the NYC headquarters with occasional engagement in San Francisco. What You'll Do
  • Own and manage the brand’s internal editorial calendar: Oversee a centralized editorial calendar for internal communications, aligning timing, messaging, and channels across teams to ensure clarity, consistency, and a well-paced employee narrative.

  • Bring the brand transformation story to life: Translate Gap’s strategic priorities—including product focus, brand reinvigoration, and cultural relevance—into clear, compelling communications that inspire employees, partnering with Public Relations to align internal and external messaging and ensure consistent narratives, coordinated timing, and a cohesive brand story.

  • Support executive communications and media readiness: Shape communications for senior leaders—including the Brand CEO and CMO—across internal moments (town halls, employee forums), select external speaking and media engagements, potential issues and reactive communications - developing presentations, speeches, briefing materials, Q&A, and key messages.

  • Partner on HR and People Communications: Collaborate with HR and People teams to deliver communications related to organizational updates, talent initiatives, culture programs, and employee experience priorities, handling sensitive topics with sound judgment and discretion.

  • Lead integrated internal campaigns: Develop and execute multi-channel communications tied to key business moments—including product launches, brand campaigns, and organizational updates—ensuring consistency and impact.

  • Create meaningful employee experiences: Design and deliver high-impact events and engagement moments—including town halls, leadership forums, and cultural activations—bringing key product launches and collaborations to life internally in ways that build excitement, deepen understanding, and reinforce connection to the brand.

  • Innovate how we communicate: Bring a digital-first and culturally relevant lens to storytelling, evolving formats, channels, and content to better engage today’s employee audience.

  • Build strong cross-functional alignment: Partner across teams to ensure messaging consistency and alignment with enterprise priorities, including close coordination with Global Corporate Affairs.

  • Drive brand and industry recognition: Proactively identify and manage opportunities for brand and industry awards, developing compelling submissions that showcase Gap’s storytelling, cultural relevance, and ongoing transformation.

  • Uphold and evolve the Gap voice. Ensure all communications reflect the brand’s tone—optimistic, modern, inclusive, and confident—while supporting its ongoing reinvention.

What We Do

In 1969, Don and Doris Fisher opened the first Gap store on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco. They wanted to make it easier to find a great pair of jeans, and they did. Their denim and records store was a hit, and it grew to become one of the world’s most iconic brands. Today we’re represented in more than 1400 stores in over 40 countries, and online. We have headquarters in New York, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and, of course, San Francisco. Our unique aesthetic is optimistic cool, elevated American style. Our clothes are crafted with care, with focused attention to thoughtful design. We believe in staying true to our heritage while creating what’s next. Don and Doris Fisher always wanted to “do more than sell clothes.” They wanted to support the people who ran their company, to be active in their communities, and to have a positive impact on the world. Their vision helped transform retail, and we’re still following their lead. We stand for freedom and possibility for all; we champion diverse ideas that transcend generations, geographies and genders.
