SUMMARY

The Communications Manager will serve as a key storyteller and media strategist for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment’s rapidly growing Entertainment, Hospitality, Media, and Technology businesses. This role will support external communications efforts across Barclays Center, Brooklyn Hospitality Group, BKMag, and additional new ventures as we continue to expand our cultural footprint. Occasionally, this role will support communications for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment's sports portfolio including the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty and Long Island Nets.

Our ideal candidate brings an exceptional understanding of the entertainment, culture, hospitality, and media landscapes, with a pulse on emerging trends and a strong instinct for identifying storylines that break through. This role blends strategic planning, executive thought leadership, creative pitching, strategic messaging, and on-the-ground media management for some of the most dynamic entertainment properties in New York.

The Manager, Communications reports to the Senior Director, Communications.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support media strategy and storytelling for entertainment, hospitality, media, and technology ventures, including Barclays Center, Brooklyn Hospitality Group (including Brooklyn Wine Club), BK Mag, and forthcoming platform businesses.
  • Support communications strategy for new ventures, helping launch and position emerging properties within our expanding portfolio.
  • Support the development of thought leadership plans for executives across Marketing, Entertainment, and Products & Experiences, among others.
  • Proactively pitch and secure coverage across entertainment, culture, lifestyle, and business outlets, generating consistent visibility for our brands, initiatives, and executives.
  • Draft and edit press releases, statements, media advisories, and brand messaging, ensuring clarity, consistency, and a strong voice across all Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment platforms.
  • Manage onsite media operations for Barclays Center events—including concerts, college basketball, boxing, family entertainment, cultural programming, and hospitality-driven activations.
  • Assist in maintaining the department’s storylines, fact sheets, media outreach tracking documents, and media distribution lists.
  • Support corporate communications for the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty, and Long Island Nets as needed.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • 3-5 years of experience in a strategic communications role with a track record of delivering measurable results through both internal and external communications.
  • Experience at a Public Relations firm/agency or within entertainment, music, and sports industry preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Knowledge of key players in the sports, entertainment and hospitality industries, and how industry news directly or indirectly affects the business.
  • Experience working with reporters/editors/producers and pitching stories of all types to a wide selection of media outlets.
  • Extensive media contacts and knowledge of both New York and national media with the ability to identify new media outlets and generate coverage regularly.

  • A strategic thinker who understands how entertainment and culture intersect with brand building, audience engagement, and business priorities.
  • An expert in identifying impactful communications opportunities, distilling complex topics into simple messages, writing clear content, and coaching leaders in a values-centered way.
  • A highly collaborative strategist capable of influencing a range of stakeholders with diplomacy, flexibility and focus.
  • A well-rounded, enthusiastic, creative contributor with big ideas, exceptional writing and editing skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills; executing with speed, high level of accuracy and efficiency, attention to detail, and follow-through.

COMPENSATION

$67,000 - $90,000 base salary

Full-time employees are eligible for a robust slate of total rewards, including:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works primarily in an office environment but will be expected to attend games and other events on evenings, weekends and holidays

Travel Requirements: May be required to travel on rare occasions (<5% travel); trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.
