Position Summary:
The Manager – Commercial & Market Strategy – North America leads Mesabi Metallics' North American commercial relationships, market strategy, pricing analysis and negotiation support. The role serves as a primary commercial interface with customers, offtakers and key counterparties, and supports the CCO in customer prioritization, pricing direction and commercial decision-making.
This position owns North American contract and offtake strategy, monitors iron ore, pellet, HBI/DRI and relevant steel markets, and converts market intelligence into actionable recommendations. The Manager works closely with the Logistics & Commercial Analyst, S&OP and logistics teams, while coordinating with the Head of International Sales on international opportunities and market feedback.
Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Manager will be responsible for the following:
  • Own North American customer, offtaker and key counterparty relationships and support the CCO in setting relationship priorities
  • Lead North American commercial negotiations, amendments, renewals and contract/offtake discussions within approved authority and strategy
  • Develop pricing, netback, landed-cost and negotiation strategies using analytical support from the Logistics & Commercial Analyst
  • Monitor iron ore, pellet, HBI/DRI and relevant steel market conditions, competitor activity, pricing indices and commercial trends
  • Review customer/offtake positions, contract drawdown, pricing exposure, obligations and open commercial issues
  • Prepare commercial recommendations, decision materials and escalation items for the CCO
  • Coordinate with Head of International Sales on international opportunities, customer demand and market feedback affecting Mesabi planning
  • Review provisional pricing, mark-to-market and settlement exceptions with the Logistics & Commercial Analyst
  • Maintain the North American customer growth and direct-sales pipeline and plan upcoming negotiations and relationship actions
Partner with S&OP and Logistics to align commercial commitments with production availability, inventory and transportation feasibility
Skills and Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of commercial, sales, marketing, trading, business development or related experience in mining, steel, bulk commodities or heavy industry preferred
  • Strong commercial judgment with experience in customer negotiations, contract interpretation, pricing and market analysis
  • Ability to translate market and customer information into clear commercial recommendations and decision materials
  • Strong relationship-management, communication and presentation skills with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, developing operating environment
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Supply Chain, Engineering or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based with periodic travel to customer, partner, terminal and project locations. Duties require regular use of a laptop, phone and other standard office equipment; occasional field or industrial-site access may require appropriate PPE.
Salary:
$129,000 - $154,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
