JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY:
The Commercial Portfolio Group Manager 2 works under the direct supervision of the Director of Portfolio Management & Underwriting or a Regional President. The position has responsibilities over a regional market (typically a multi-state region or large regional market) and leadership over a team of Group Portfolio Managers and/or Portfolio Managers (PMs). This position leads, directs and coordinates the credit underwriting and portfolio management functions for the assigned Wholesale Banking portfolio, including regional level analytics and reporting. In addition to the leadership duties, the Commercial Portfolio Group Manager 2 may be assigned special projects by the Director of Portfolio Management & Underwriting or Regional President.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Duties:
- Lead a team of Group Portfolio Managers and PMs responsible for underwriting, portfolio management and preserving the asset quality of the assigned Wholesale Banking loan portfolio.
- Establish roles, responsibilities and expectations.
- Effectively coordinate regional department workflow to ensure that all credit requests are handled in a timely manner, balancing the need to quickly turnaround new requests while handling renewals, amendments, etc., as appropriate.
- Provide oversight and direction over the team’s accuracy and timeliness of credit underwriting and credit approval packages, loan agreement compliance, past due payments, collateral and critical exceptions, financial statement tracking, loan coding, borrower and facility risk rating appropriateness and the timeliness of annual relationship reviews and annual renewals.
- Effectively partner with senior management, internal (market leaders, sales managers, RMs, credit officers and other business partners) and external partners to efficiently and accurately analyze, underwrite, document and service the portfolio.
- Offer guidance to the team and Credit Delivery partners on credit structure, underwriting and loan documentation.
- Provide leadership in resolving credit related issues among Credit Delivery partners including market leadership, PMs, RMs, credit officers and credit administration.
- Monitor the portfolio’s health quality ratings to identify any developing trends and protect the Bank’s credit soundness.
Additional Duties:
- Maintain reporting for the assigned portfolio (i.e., pipeline report, portfolio metrics, etc.).
- As appropriate, offer guidance and review Watch Reports and participate in Watch Committee.
- Periodic interaction with internal credit review, audit and external examiners.
- Review market and industry analyses to evaluate macroeconomic and industry drivers.
- Stay abreast of current legislation and economic conditions which may affect customer relationships and the Wholesale Banking Line of Business; communicates findings as appropriate.
- As needed, lead and/or participate in special projects and ad-hoc committees.
- Openly exchange ideas and opinions and express concerns.
- Safeguard all client information in adherence to bank guidelines, including personal client data, account data and other sensitive information.
- Maintain a working knowledge of bank policies and procedures regarding applicable federal, state, and local banking and industry related laws and regulations applicable to the position, including but not limited to, Anti-Money Laundering, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, OFAC, CRA, Fair Lending, Bank Secrecy Act, etc.
- Ensure timely and successful completion of all annually required bank training assignments.
- Responsible for reporting any procedure or process that doesn’t meet regulatory requirements including fraud, whether suspected or confirmed, to management. This reporting can be directly made to management, including Human Resources or Corporate Security, or can be reported anonymously via the Integrity in Action hotline.
- Responsible for identifying and recommending cross-sell opportunities of ancillary bank products including, but not limited to, Treasury Services, International Banking, Equipment Finance, Private Banking, etc.
- Annual involvement in at least one (1) civic, community or industry-related activity is strongly encouraged.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages one or more Group Portfolio Managers and/or Portfolio Managers with responsibility for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these areas; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; recommends staff compensation, promotions, hires and terminations.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- 10+ years of credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio management, relationship management, or a combination of related commercial banking experience is required.
- Successful completion of an on the job credit training program or certificate program is required.
- Experience managing diversified, complex, sensitive and high-dollar credit relationships is required.
- Effective management and leadership experience is required
- Excellent verbal, written & interpersonal skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations; to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and the general public
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret business and personal financial statements and federal/state tax returns
- Knowledge of non-credit bank products and services
- Understands and capable of correctly applying business principals and financial ratios
- Analytical and financial analysis skills
- Capable of quick, on-the-spot calculations with a financial calculator
- Knowledge of loan documentation, loan agreements, loan structuring, collateral perfection and liens, general business contracts, etc.
- Understands lending policy and procedures, underwriting and regulatory guidelines
- Understands risks (market, interest rate, leverage, etc.) as applicable to the credit process

- Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 25 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions.
