WIRED is seeking a creative and diligent Audience Development Manager to help grow and engage our community of loyal readers and subscribers. This role will focus primarily on building out WIRED’s subscriber-only community programming, especially producing our portfolio of live virtual events, while also supporting newsletter production and other audience growth initiatives.

The right candidate will be deeply collaborative and comfortable working across editorial, product, marketing, and operations. You’ll bring WIRED’s journalism to life for its most engaged audiences, designing meaningful touchpoints that strengthen loyalty and drive subscriber retention, while also contributing to broader audience development goals across newsletters, platforms, and partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead production of WIRED’s monthly subscriber-only livestream events, from concept and planning to execution and post-event audience engagement.
     

  • Partner with editorial teams to shape event programming that highlights WIRED’s biggest stories, beats, and writers.
     

  • Collaborate with video, design, and production teams to ensure livestream events are executed smoothly and deliver a premium subscriber experience.
     

  • Develop strategies for building and sustaining WIRED’s subscriber community, including event follow-ups, reader forums, and other engagement touchpoints.
     

  • Support WIRED’s newsletter strategy and production, including writing, editing, scheduling, and performance tracking.
     

  • Write and edit snappy, enticing, accurate copy for alerts, subject lines and other crucial audience touchpoints
     

  • Use data and audience insights to inform programming decisions and identify opportunities to grow engagement, retention, and revenue.
     

  • Work closely with WIRED’s subscriptions and commerce teams to ensure community tactics support subscriber growth and loyalty goals.
     

  • Partner with analytics to test and optimize strategies for newsletters, events, and other engagement initiatives.
     

  • Assist in cross-team editorial projects, all-hands coverage events, and special editorial packages as needed.

Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience in audience development, events, newsletters, or digital media.

  • Demonstrated experience producing virtual or live events, ideally for a media brand.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple initiatives at once.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Comfort with analytics tools and translating audience data into actionable strategies.

  • Collaborative, creative, and highly organized, with an eye for both detail and big-picture goals.

  • Passion for WIRED’s mission and coverage of technology, science, culture, and innovation.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $87,000-$93,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.

In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
