McMaster-Carr
Who We Are
McMaster-Carr is an innovative e-commerce company helping customers build and repair anything because we offer everything. We've thrived for over 120 years thanks to a relentless focus on customer experience, adaptability, and world-class operations. Our national headquarters in the Chicagoland area is the largest and most operationally complex facility in our network - a modern distribution center, office, and data center campus where same-day shipping, speed and excellence aren't aspirations, they're the standard. Curious, exceptional people are always at the center of our evolution, turning new challenges and disruptive technologies into opportunities to learn new skills and get important work done that makes customers' lives better.
What You'll Do
McMaster-Carr’s Chicagoland facility operates extensive conveyor systems, an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS), an industrial vehicle fleet, and plans to expand the use of warehouse robotics. It's our proving ground for new technology- and the only facility in our network with this level of automation complexity today.
At the same time, we maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps the entire site running – electrical distribution, HVAC, fire protection, building utilities, powered industrial vehicles and data center infrastructure. The scope here is broad by design - and for the right leader, that breadth is the opportunity.
We're looking for a credible maintenance and engineering leader who's comfortable walking the floor and troubleshooting alongside technicians in the morning, partnering with senior leadership on reliability strategy in the afternoon, and refining maintenance programs that keep everything running in between.
In this role, you'll:
- Lead maintenance operations, including developing and training a team of supervisors and maintenance experts responsible for the reliability of automated systems and critical building infrastructure
- Own the execution of maintenance strategy and preventive/predictive maintenance programs
- Drive uptime and reliability across conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval, robotics, backup power, fire protection, HVAC, and building utilities
- Partner with operations, engineering, and senior leadership to plan and execute upgrades and capital projects
- Manage maintenance budgets and vendor relationships
- Ensure the maintenance organization can scale as our automation footprint grows - this role's scope will expand with it
Total cash compensation generally ranges from $231,000 - $320,000 and includes profit sharing based on company performance.

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering {or equivalent)
- 7+ years of professional experience in maintenance and engineering leadership in high up-time industrial environments, including critical building systems and automated systems
- Experience leading and developing a team of maintenance technicians and/or engineers
- Experience managing maintenance budgets and capital projects
- Experience leading root-cause analysis and demonstrated skills as a credible, technical leader with close proximity to the work
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across operations, engineering, and senior leadership
- Commitment to personal, professional, and team growth
