Summary

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives, sorts and distributes incoming, outgoing, and interoffice mail 

  • Delivers and collects mail utilizing delivery pushcart and vehicle 

  • Maintains logs of all accountable mail and performs other data entry tasks 

  • Delivers and collects mail from U.S. Post Office 

  • Responds to customer inquiries in person or by telephone 

  • Provides information and advice to customers on available postal services 

  • Prepares delivery forms and accounting reports  Performs other duties as required 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate 

  • Knowledge of basic office procedures 

  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations 

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and postal machines; ability to read, understand and follow instructions; ability to drive delivery vehicle; ability to maintain records and prepare routine reports; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to effectively respond to questions and complaints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside organizations and the general public 

  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation 

  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test 

  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and maintain a good driving record 

  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:   

  • Working conditions are primarily indoors   

  • Occasional exposure to jail environment with occasional exposure to hostile people   

  • Constant exposure to noise from postal machines and dust   

  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds   

  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 50-70 pounds   

  • Occasionally moves about the office   

  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information   

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery   

  • Positions self to perform essential functions   

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position
