About the role Job Summary
The Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining production machinery, ensuring efficient and safe operations. This role performs advanced machine setup, monitors production quality, and may assist in training junior machinists.
This job profile is intended for experienced support-level staff that generally works autonomously and only requires closer supervision in non-routine situations.

Join our Services team within Rotating Equipment Services division in Ontario as a Journey-person Machinist to help us take Sulzer Rotating Equipment Services (Canada) Ltd., to the next level. 

In this role, working under limited supervision, you will:

  • Set-up and operate conventional machine tools as directed; Perform layouts
  • Read and interpret drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Use proper machining techniques: setup feeds and speeds for both carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools per standard operating procedures and methods
  • Manufacture or repair product on time as defined by direct supervisor and production schedule.
  • Improve methods for higher quality and improved costs

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Completion of a related apprenticeship program preferred
  • Working knowledge and ability to effectively set-up all or most of the following machines: Engine Lathe, Milling Machine, Radial Drill, Horizontal Boring Mill, Vertical Boring Mill
  • CNC machine tool experience an asset
  • Working knowledge of tool geometry and application
  • Working knowledge of effects of feeds and speeds on alloy materials
  • Ability to work overtime as required

Skills Required
