REPORTS TO: Lead Machinist

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

SUMMARY: Operates CNC and Manual Machinery in accordance to Safety Practices, Operational Manuals and best practices. Programs and runs programs on CNC machines and observes the operation of the equipment to ensure the accuracy of the part to the provided drawing. Manually checks machine function by using measuring devices to ensure work output is within acceptable limits. Brings technical issues to the attention of his/her supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· All those associated with Machinist I.

· Able to read, understand, and work to complex machining blueprints.

· Able to write simple machining programs on several different controllers.

· Set-up and/or run complex machining operations on the Haas Mill, Nomura Horizontal Boring Mill, Mori Seiki Lathe & Mill and all manual machines.

· Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions, adjust machine controls and offsets with no supervision.

· Periodically inspect parts during run and after completion to ensure parts are accurate and within tolerance.

· Process all paperwork according to Standard Operating Procedures.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working area.

· Monitor hours to ensure that machining jobs remain within acceptable limits to the estimate.

· Perform general preventative maintenance on machines within the machining department

· Other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, direction may be provided to project coordinators, QA, and engineering personnel, and to shop personnel. Direction is provided in the spirit of organizing and prioritizing the tasks required to complete projects on time and within budget.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • HS Diploma, GED or equivalent.

  • 5-10 years of related machine shop experience and/or training or equivalent.

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist or similar role, with a strong understanding of CNC machinery and programming with different CNC controller manufacturers such as Mazak, Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, etc.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

· Ability to perform simple machine set-ups and read tooling lists, blueprints, and manufacturing diagrams.

· Ability to use standard measuring equipment ensuring part dimensions are within tolerances.

· Skilled in blueprint reading and GD&T.

· Ability to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals.

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

· Ability to perform general trigonometry and geometry.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

· Experience with hard metals such as Inconel and titanium is a plus.

MUST BE A US CITIZEN - In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Prior training in Lean Manufacturing and work experience in a Lean environment is highly desirable.

Skills Required
