At TLR Hydraulics, our Midlothian shop handles hydraulic cylinder repair and rebuild for customers in construction, industrial, agricultural, mining, and manufacturing. When a cylinder fails, we are the team that gets it back in service fast. As a Hydraulic Cylinder Mechanic, you will inspect, disassemble, repair, and rebuild cylinders of all sizes, working with precision measuring instruments, lathes, presses, grinders, welders, and overhead cranes to deliver quality repairs that meet our performance and safety standards.

What You'll Do

Cylinder Repair and Rebuild

  • Inspect hydraulic cylinders and components to identify wear, damage, or malfunction before beginning repair.
  • Disassemble hydraulic cylinders using appropriate tools and equipment, following shop procedures throughout.
  • Replace seals, rods, tubes, pistons, bearings, and other worn or damaged components to manufacturer specifications.
  • Hone, polish, machine, weld, or fabricate parts as required by the repair scope.

Precision Work and Quality

  • Measure components using precision instruments including micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges to verify tolerances throughout the repair process.
  • Perform hydraulic pressure testing and quality inspections after every repair to confirm performance and safety.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, technical drawings, and repair manuals accurately.
  • Maintain accurate repair records and work orders for every job.

Shop Operations and Safety

  • Operate shop equipment including lathes, presses, grinders, welders, and overhead cranes safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.
  • Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic systems and equipment in the shop or in the field when required.
QualificationsWhat We're Looking For

Must Have:

  • Hands-on mechanical experience in hydraulic cylinder repair, heavy equipment maintenance, diesel mechanics, or industrial maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve hydraulic failures.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds and work comfortably in a shop environment.

Nice to Have:

  • Direct experience with hydraulic cylinder teardown, seal replacement, and rebuild.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, fluid power principles, seals, and fittings.
  • Experience operating lathes, presses, grinders, welders, or overhead cranes.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic pressure testing procedures and equipment.
