We are looking for a talented Machine Safety Engineer - Senior to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins in San Luis Potosí, S.L.P. (Hybrid role: 3 days on site, 2 days home office)
In this role, you will make an impact by:
- Leading machine safety risk assessments, validations, inspections, and system design reviews, including safeguarding and functional safety systems in all sites in Cummins ( Global role)
- Acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Machine Safety and Functional Safety during capital and plant improvement projects, ensuring alignment with Cummins and industry standards.
- Developing and standardizing processes related to machinery safety, including design specifications, testing, auditing, compliance, and documentation.
- Reviewing and interpreting new corporate and regulatory safety requirements and driving implementation across sites.
- Leading safety system improvement initiatives across businesses, including remediation efforts and consultant coordination.
- Supporting engineering teams in identifying hazards, implementing effective controls, and optimizing safety function components.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience as Control Engineer, it is plus HSE strong experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of automation and control systems (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic).
- Experience conducting machine safety risk assessments in multidisciplinary environments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
- Solid understanding of Machinery Safety and Functional Safety standards (ANSI, ISO, IEC), including ISO 13849, ISO 12100, IEC 62061, and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting safety functions (PLCs, safety relays, HMI interfaces).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Practical knowledge of machinery operation and hazard identification.
- Robot safety knowledge (preferred).
- Advanced English Level
- Availability to travel internationally 10% of the time (Mianly in USA)

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Prefered Certification as a functional safety engineer (CMSE or TUV certified functional safety engineer) required.
Experience:
- 3+ years of hands-on progressive experience in leading & managing machine safeguarding and equipment safety system programs and activities. This should include experience in machine safety risk assessments, safety system evaluation, design, and implementation of Safety Functions (SRP-CS - Safety-related Parts of Control Systems) per ISO 13849-1 Performance Levels (PL) and Category architectures (including calculating PL using tools such as SISTEMA)
- Complete Machine Safety Risk Assessments
- Provide machine safety expertise regarding corporate initiatives, capital projects, training and support to Cummins plants globally.
- Provide expert hands-on technical advice on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with machine safety standards and policies and interpretation of local, national, and global requirements and regulations.
- Work closely with other members of the Global Manufacturing Engineering team to develop and implement internal guidelines and standards for machine safety.
- Lead or participate in significant machine safety system related incident investigations and root cause analyses.
- Support employee training on machine safety systems/processes.
