JOB OVERVIEW

M&A Support Specialist (Life Insurance Book Transfer Specialist)

Key Responsibilities

  • Support due diligence and integration efforts for BD/RIA partner mergers and acquisitions, with a focus on insurance books of business
  • Analyze existing advisor distribution models (BD, IMO, hybrid, etc.) and determine path for transition
  • Coordinate transitions of insurance books of business, including:
    • Agent of record (AOR) changes
    • Book of business transfers/block transfers
    • Policy servicing ownership
  • Review and manage carrier-specific requirements, including:
    • Transfer rules and restrictions
    • Vesting and commission ownership
    • Product availability and eligibility under different distribution channels and contracts
  • Work with the Vanbridge Licensing & Contracting Team to ensure appointments are in place for book of business transfers
  • Evaluate how distribution changes impact:
    • Commission structures and payouts
    • Trails and renewals
    • Compensation grids
    • DTCC feeds and data
  • Coordinate with Vanbridge and BD/RIA Partner operations teams to ensure continuity of:
    • DTCC feeds
    • Commissions if applicable
    • Revenue reporting and reconciliation
  • Identify gaps in licensing, appointments, or carrier relationships during integration – work with the Vanbridge Licensing & Contracting team to resolve
  • Serve as liaison between advisors, carriers, BD/RIA Partners, and internal Vanbridge teams
  • Assist in developing standardized processes and playbooks for future M&A integrations
  • Provide guidance to BD/RIA partners on transition impacts and required actions

Required Experience & Expertise

  • Insurance Distribution Knowledge
    • Deep understanding of BD-direct vs. IMO vs. hybrid distribution models
    • Experience with how distribution structure impacts:
      • Contracts and appointments
      • Commissions
      • Product access and carrier alignment
      • DTCC feeds and data
  • Carrier & Servicing Knowledge
    • Strong familiarity with insurance carrier servicing rules
    • Experience handling:
      • Book of business transfers
      • Agent-of-record changes
      • Policy ownership and servicing rights
      • Transfer of commissions
  • Commissions & Compensation
    • Working knowledge of:
      • Commission structures (upfront, trails, renewals)
      • Vesting rules and ownership rights
      • Transferability of commissions
  • Industry Knowledge
    • Broad understanding of the insurance marketplace, including:
      • Retail (advisor-facing) distribution
      • Wholesale (IMOs, BGAs, FMOs) channels
    • Familiarity with fixed life, fixed annuity, and variable life & annuity products

Preferred / Additional Skills (Highly Valuable)

  • Experience supporting RIA and/or BD transitions or M&A integrations
  • Familiarity with DTCC commission feeds and data flows
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory considerations (FINRA, SEC, state DOI)
  • Experience with multi-carrier environments and national platforms
  • Strong project management skills (ability to manage multiple integrations simultaneously)
  • Experience with revenue mapping and compensation reconciliation

COMPENSATION: 

The national average salary for this role is $60 000.00 - $80 000.00 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
