This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. As a Test Engineer working with a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will support the Mk2 Crew Lander Fluids and Propulsion team.

This is a hands-on position where you will apply broad multi-disciplinary engineering (fluids, thermal, mechanical, and electrical/electronic) knowledge, skills, and methods to positively impact safe human spaceflight. We are looking for someone with technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

  • Expected 25% time traveling during test planning and probable travel of 50-75% during periods of integration and test at multiple offsite locations

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, plan, and execute integrated testing which could include research, development, qualification, acceptance, performance, and environmental testing.
  • Project management of test budgets and schedules
  • Lead or assist developing test requirements, plans, and procedures to ensure acceptable hardware/system performance.
  • Create and review test plans, test procedures, safety assessments, schematics (e.g. P&IDs), and other engineering artifacts.
  • Procure and install test support equipment and test facility infrastructure; work with supply chain to manage vendors and subcontractors
  • Host, coordinate, and participate in test readiness reviews, pre- and post-test briefings, and post-test reviews.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing; respond to emergency situations during test if necessary
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior engineers.
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations.
  • Process, analyze, and archive test data.
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work, and coordinate with internal customers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in aerospace test engineering or related technical field.
  • Hands-on test experience or exposure to fluids systems and/or fluid system components
  • Hands-on test experience or exposure to at least one of the following types of testing: inspection, performance, leakage, shock, vibe, static/dynamic loading, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, pressurized operations, cryogenic fluids testing, EMC, or Life testing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills including prioritization, scheduling, and providing succinct status reports.
  • A strong safety record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience/background with pressurized equipment, thermal systems, cryogenics, hypergols, or vacuum systems.
  • Experience/understands hazardous operations.
  • Experience with valves and heat exchangers
  • Experience with inert fluid operations or test.
  • Experience with control systems and algorithms
  • Experience with sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
  • Experience building subscale analysis models to generate performance predictions for test/verification

 

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20 CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85 WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
