IN A NUTSHELL
At Bellroy, we make products that help people move through the world. From slim wallets and everyday carry to travel bags built for real life on the go. Now, we’re expanding our luggage range. So we are looking for a designer with the right mix of technical skill, aesthetic sensibility, and creative drive to help us shape this category from the (near) ground up.
We’re not here to rehash what already exists. We’re building luggage with substance and we need someone who can take it from a rough idea to a fully resolved product. Think smart construction, thoughtful features, elevated styling all carried through with care. You'll join a tight-knit, experienced team that knows soft goods and product development inside out, but we’re still learning, experimenting, and thinking freshly about what travel gear should be.
This is a role with real trust, autonomy, and creative runway. You’ll be part of a team that cares deeply about making exceptional things, not just shipping SKUs.
YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU...
- Have 5+ years of experience in industrial or product design. Ideally in luggage, but we’re open to related fields like prams, bikes, outdoor gear, office chairs, or even auto. Anywhere materials, mechanics and movement really matter.
- Know how to take a product from sketch to shelf. Balancing concept, function, styling, and manufacturability.
- Are fluent in 3D CAD, and have worked across both soft and hard goods.
- Have helped build a cohesive product family, not just standalone items.
- Sweat the detail, a wheel system that glides smoother, a closure that just works or a weight saving requiring some hard thinking.
- Bring a refined sense of taste and styling. Care deeply about visual harmony and brand alignment.
- Can take hand-wavy, emotive inputs and turn them into real, manufacturable designs that people can touch, use, and love.
- You take pride in the final 10%, the part where ideas become products, and details make the difference.
- Have worked directly with Asian manufacturing partners, and understand how to get things made at scale.
- Have worked in both structured teams and scrappy ones, and bring a healthy curiosity about how things could be done better.
EVEN BETTER IF YOU…
- Have experience with sustainable materials or processes, and think creatively about how to use them well.
- Have helped build a travel gear category, or have strong thoughts about what a great one should look like.
- Think luggage should feel human, thoughtful and understated, not industrial or over-engineered.
- Have designed something that made someone say: “That’s clever.”
IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, YOU MIGHT HAVE...
- Sketched early concepts for a new travel bag while considering materials, weight distribution and functional needs
- Reworked a prototype after testing revealed a weak point in the wheel housing
- Joined a team workshop to map out the future of Bellroy’s luggage range, exploring what to build next and what will set us apart
- Talked with a supplier about a promising eco-shell material and asked the right questions to understand its limitations and potential
- Debated with the team (in good humour) whether we really need another pocket or if simplicity would serve better
- Reviewed customer feedback to identify key friction points and translated those into meaningful design improvements
- Scoped out the long term plan for our luggage category and identified the skills and resources we’ll need to grow it well

What We Do
Bellroy puts its heart, soul and countless design hours into helping the world carry with greater simplicity and ease. Every piece has been deeply considered to help you get the best of life’s little moments.
In the early 2000s, as slim tailoring became popular, bulky wallets couldn’t hide anymore. So, a team of product designers and creatives (who also happened to be friends) sat around a kitchen table in Bells Beach, Australia, to design a slim wallet with fewer layers of leather and better card positioning. The release of this product in 2010 signaled the birth of the Bellroy brand, and we’ve come a fair way since then...
We recognized pretty early on that we could use business as a force for good. So, as a certified B Corp, we constantly pursue better ways to source our leathers, reduce our impact on the environment and make sure our products last as long as possible.
Our range of carry goods has moved beyond pockets and includes solutions for your tech, work accessories and more – right down to the humble set of keys. Because as long as there are things to carry through our lives, we want to find better ways to store, protect and carry them.
