The Logistics Manager will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end logistics process for inbound freight including international and domestic shipments across all shipping modes (ocean, air, FTL, LTL, parcel). Along with managing relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, internal supply chain and operations teams in the US, and coordinates with overseas logistics division in Japan. This role ensures timely delivery, cost control, import/export compliance, and accurate reporting. The Logistics Manager drives continuous improvement in logistics processes and collaborates cross-functionally to support smooth operations including identification and implementation of applicable software packages.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience (manager level) in international logistics / inbound material sourcing / supply chain for an industrial manufacturing or equipment-oriented business.
- Strong knowledge of international air & ocean freight, customs brokerage/import/export procedures, relevant trade regulations.
- Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, suppliers, and warehouses external to the company.
- Track record of cost control / freight spend analysis, negotiation of shipping / forwarding rates.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple shipments / deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong skills in invoice processing, financial reconciliation related to shipments and logistics costs.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills (both internal & external).
- Excellent reporting skills: ability to build and present logistics performance metrics, identify trends, and drive improvements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
- SAP experience preferred (or other ERP system with strong logistics module).
- Experience with implementing and operating duty drawback programs, foreign trade zones, and other applicable trade preference programs and duty mitigation strategies.
- Certifications such as CLTD, CSCP, or SCPro are advantageous.
- Japanese language skills helpful but not required.
