Summary: The Routing & Logisitics Coordinator schedules, assigns, and directs drivers and vehicles to transport steel/product and coordinates drivers according to customer requests in compliance with DOT regulations and company rules.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:
- Responsible for all activities relating to the daily processes of routes for delivery of company freight in the most efficient manner.
- Negotiate freight rates and contract reliable common carriers.
- Daily delivery route creation of orders for delivery.
- Use software to build efficient delivery routes. Incorporation of factors including, but not limited to travel times, service times, DOT restrictions and traffic into delivery routes.
- Analyzes routes and restructures routes if needed to promote optimization.
- Understands transportation optimization techniques including mode selection, freight consolidation, load building, efficient routing through the software system.
- When given an example of problem with a given route, be able to determine if there is a better solution.
- Releases route information to 3PL for order building in a timely manner.
- Monitoring outgoing delivery requests from the local facility, balance daily truck availability with 3PL delivery team and contract common carriers in the case of driver or equipment shortages.
- Review common carrier invoices for accuracy.
- Monitor 3PL performance using Excel Spreadsheet or equivalent.
- Communicate with sales, shop and third-party trucking companies.
- Work closely with Sales and Operations Teams regarding timely updates on order delivery, transportation estimates, and proactive status communication.
- Coordinate inbound freight from piers, mills, processors and customers.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in dispatching with strong logistics skills
