The Law Department is one of the largest law offices in New York City and one of the largest public law offices in the country. The Law Department's lawyers handle more than 80,000 cases and transactions each year and represent the City on a vast array of civil litigation and in the criminal prosecution of juveniles. The Law Department also counsels the Mayor, elected officials, the City, and all its agencies. The attorney will: interact with other Assistant Corporation Counsels and professional staff to assist with all aspects of discovery from other City agencies for the Law Department; assist in the supervision of Litigation Support staff in conducting paper and electronic discovery; learn the IT systems of the Law Department and other agencies in order to assist with the collection of electronically stored information; learn the operational functions of other City agencies including the records created and maintained by those operational units; and work under the supervision of division management. The attorney may be assigned to work on-site at the assigned agency, but that is subject to change based on space availability. The position may require travel to other agency locations to information map.
