Kia ora, at Heartland we’re looking for an experienced Retail & Reverse Mortgage Risk and Compliance Manager to join our Line 1 Risk Transformation team in Auckland. This is not a role where risk management happens from the sidelines. You’ll work directly with business leaders and teams to understand their risks, strengthen their controls and embed effective risk and compliance practices into everyday decisions and operations. You’ll have the opportunity to influence how risk is managed, helping the business respond to regulatory change, manage incidents and issues effectively and deliver sustainable outcomes for our business and customers.

You’ll join a collaborative Line 1 Risk transformation team and work with stakeholders across our Retail and Reverse Mortgage business, wider Commercial and Auto businesses, Legal, DigiTech, Enterprise Risk and Internal Audit. This role reports to the Head of Risk Transformation and has no direct reports.

Your impact

You will:

  • Lead practical and meaningful risk and control assessments.
  • Test whether important controls are appropriately designed and working effectively.
  • Support the business through product, process, system and regulatory change.
  • Help translate regulatory obligations into clear processes and controls.
  • Manage risk and compliance incidents and issues through investigation, root-cause analysis and remediation.
  • Monitor risk indicators and identify developing trends.
  • Support governance reporting, management attestations and assurance activity.
  • Strengthen business continuity planning and operational resilience.
  • Build risk capability through targeted guidance, training and constructive challenge.

What will set you up for success

You’ll bring experience in Operational Risk or Compliance within Banking or Financial Services, together with practical knowledge of risk assessments, control testing and incident management.

Just as importantly, you’ll know how to build trusted relationships, ask the right questions and influence positive change. You’ll be comfortable moving between detailed analysis and strategic conversations, with the judgement to provide constructive challenge while remaining focused on workable business solutions.

Bring your Risk expertise, commercial judgement and commitment to doing the right thing, and help us build stronger and more sustainable risk management practices across Heartland.
