Job Description

Job Title: Lifecycle Engineer

Working Pattern: Fulltime

Working location: Bristol/Cardiff

The Platform Engineering Team (PET) is a team that works collaboratively with the MoD on various fronts including the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA); with the goal of delivering evidence-based maintenance requirement optimisation recommendations to the SDA and reduce overall maintenance volume and increase platform availability.

As a part of this team, the successful candidate would be responsible for conducting and completing maintenance requirement investigations with fellow peers that highlight where an optimisation can be made, or prove that the current maintenance is already optimal.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location.  It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide technical support to help resolve technical queries and operational arisings.
  • Lead Investigation of operational issues to establish root cause
  • Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerial Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining life cycle engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation.
  • Manage any issues that effect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability and maintain Design Intent.
  • Provide lifecycle technical data (build/in-service/decommisioning) and model/support modelling of through life performance, deterioration mechanisms and service attributes to create and maintain time on platform prediction, identify opportunities for optimization and support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
  • Prepare and deliver technical communications (e.g. presentation and/or reports) to platform provider, regulators, customers, internal stakeholder.
  • Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements.
  • Identify requirements for new Health Monitoring System or capability.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders. Where delegated, act as the Technical Authority providing assurance on build, commissioning and maintenance activities.
  • Gather in-service data and carry out continuous improvement by identifying Best Practice and Learning from Experience activities, feeding back into future programmes and product design teams.

  • Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience)
  • Knowledge of components/ systems functionality and numerical methods
  • Experience of working on complex tasks that are novel and ambiguous
  • Familiarity of the in service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Experience in troubleshooting and/or problem resolution
  • Experience in support/lead cross-functional teams e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners.
  • Experience developing and challenging maintenance requirements.
  • Safety Case experience.
  • Investigative/Questioning mindset,
  • Experience with Azure DevOps,
  • Report writing.
