Job DescriptionThe Legal Technical Specialist plays a key role in ensuring TAL delivers fair, timely and well‑reasoned outcomes for members across Income Protection, Life and TPD claims. By combining legal expertise with a deep understanding of policy and regulatory expectations, this role strengthens the quality of our decision‑making and written communications, particularly through clear, empathetic procedural fairness and decline letters. It’s a role that directly supports TAL’s commitment to doing what’s right for our customers, helping safeguard consistency, transparency and trust in every claims experience.
In This Role You Will:
- Produce clear, legally sound and empathetic adverse decision correspondence that supports fair and transparent outcomes.
- Ensure all written decisions align with policy terms, legislation and industry standards to uphold compliance and consistency.
- Uplift team capability by coaching consultants in high‑quality legal drafting and effective written communication.
- Deliver targeted training that strengthens understanding of procedural fairness and improves decision‑making quality.
- Maintain strong legal and regulatory awareness to enhance the accuracy and integrity of claims decisions.
- Champion best‑practice claims handling to reinforce TAL’s commitment to fairness, customer care and regulatory excellence.
- Strong ability to draft clear, structured and legally sound written communications.
- Confident in interpreting policy terms and applying sound reasoning to complex situations.
- Solid understanding of life insurance law and key regulatory obligations, or a willingness to build this capability.
- Skilled in providing constructive coaching that helps others grow their drafting and decision‑making skills.
- Able to balance competing priorities while maintaining care, accuracy and professionalism.
- Committed to fair, customer‑centred outcomes and collaborative ways of working.
