Role Value Proposition:
This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic legal team, providing support to the Head of Legal for MetLife in Italy. MetLife Italy is a multichannel branch of an Irish company. As such, the role is varied, fast paced and require coordination with the central team in Dublin. Given the strategic organisational importance of the legal team, this is a real opportunity to make a difference, to work on several projects at once and to be visible to senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
The purpose of the job of the Legal Counsel - Data Privacy Specialist is to provide legal services for MetLife Europe in all areas and activities with a specific focus on data privacy, including:
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts (including letters of appointment as data processor), informative notes, trade unions agreements, data transfer agreements (DTA) etc.
- Assess the feasibility of distribution models (including the distance selling distribution)
- Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA)
- Legitimate Interest Assessment (LIA)
- Advising on legal and regulatory change affecting the business
- Handling any request related the data privacy rights (access, cancellation etc) in cooperation with the Complaints Department
- Managing data privacy breach and incident as well as notification to the Data Privacy Authority
- Undertaking legal research and monitoring changes in legislation and plan appropriate actions
- Supporting on project work to ensure smooth delivery of legal deliverables
- Supporting on Privacy matters cooperating with the data privacy office in Dublin and external lawyers
- Roll out at a local level global initiatives and training
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
- Qualified lawyer with up to at least 4 years of relevant experience in data privacy matters in private or in-house practice
- Proficiency in English
- Deep knowledge of the GDPR and of the local data privacy regulatory framework
- Experience in data privacy regulatory matters, data privacy risk assessment, ROPA, trade unions agreements, data transfer agreement (DTA), Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA), Legitimate Interest Assessment (LIA)
- Proven background of building collaborative partnerships and maintaining internal and external stakeholder trust and confidence with outstanding communication, organisational and interpersonal skills and utilisation of these skills in advising the business/internal stakeholder
- Excellent understanding of the Italian and European legal environment and trends
- Ability to work under pressure
Preferred:
- Experience in a multi-national and cross border insurance or financial services company is a distinct advantage.
- Specialization in insurance/financial sector will be considered a plus
- Experience in insurance law and insurance/financial services regulation, privacy law will be considered a plus.
