About the Role:
The Legal Assistant processes legal pleadings & maintains inventory of cases for our attorneys. This role will interact with the consumer on the client's behalf to recover balances due.
Organize & track files from case documents, making them available & easily accessible to attorneys
Supports case preparation by preparing pleadings & other court documents
Keeps cases organized by:
- Establishing and organizing files
- Monitoring calendars & meeting deadlines
- Documenting actions
- Inputting information into file database
- Confirming case status with attorney
Multi-tasking while maintaining highest level of accuracy & attention to detail
Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress
Ensure compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and other applicable regulation
Take payments by phone
Required Qualifications:
Legal Assistant or Paralegal degree or certificate
4+ years of relevant experience may substitute for degree or certificate
Knowledge of Small Claims Court
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
Proficient personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of FDCPA and related consumer protection laws
Employment eligibility:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire
