After six months of employment, employees may have the opportunity to apply for a hybrid work schedule.

Academic positions (Faculty) require on-campus presence, even if the role involves teaching online classes, in accordance with state law.

Position Summary 

Provide high-quality delivery of a broad range of library public services, including instruction, reference, and collection management, to a diverse community of users in support of the College’s curriculum and mission. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to provide first-level Learning Commons service support for students, bridging their classroom learning by assisting with the location of learning materials, resources, and equipment.  

  • Able to respond to requests for general information with a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, and accuracy.  

  • Able to effectively provide appropriate referrals to other service areas.

  • Performs related service functions that support department operations.   

  • Understands the role this position plays within the College’s mission and deliver high quality service in the support of student success.   

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College community network.  

  • Able to prepare periodic reports, as necessary or requested. 

  • Strong commitment to providing world-class customer service.  

  • Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.   

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment.  

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities and the ability to prioritize work.

Physical Requirements 

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Requires in-person interaction and coordination of work with other employees, students, external clients, partners or customers and/or immediate access to equipment, documents, or other information located only in a College workspace.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA program, Master’s preferred 

  • Strong commitment to information literacy instruction and demonstrated aptitude for teaching in multiple formats. 

  • Ability to provide individual research assistance and instruction on the fly, in person, or online. 

  • Experience with automated library systems.  

  • Demonstrated expertise in database searching and information retrieval.  

  • Working knowledge of new and emerging technologies and familiarity with their impact on higher education. 

  • Official transcript will be required. 

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop, teach, and assess information literacy in various environments at various College locations including visits to classes, in-person, and online presentations. 

  • Participates in the planning and conducting student and or faculty orientations. 

  • Assist faculty with the integration of library research and information retrieval skills in their courses both face-to-face and in the course management system. 

  • Provide answers to reference questions. 

  • Conduct reference interviews and maintains a reference desk schedule. 

  • Interact and provide assistance to patrons (students, faculty, staff, and guests) in identifying, locating, and accessing information on-campus and online. 

  • Work as a member of a team with the goal of excellent customer service. 

  • Design, maintain, and update guides (research tools, digital resources, and databases in both online and print) to improve access and use of information including, but not limited to, the navigation of databases, style and format guides, subject and course-specific guides, copyright, and plagiarism. 

  • Assist in the supervision and training of work study students employed at the library. 

  • Carry out special projects promoting the library and its resources.

  • Assists in planning and implementing programs and public relations activities. 

  • Participate in professional development.

  • Maintains current awareness in the field. 

  • Maintains the Reference and Circulation areas. 

  • Utilizes excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact effectively with the college community.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other related tasks as required.
