At UnitedHealthcare, we are transforming the healthcare experience through innovative technology. As a Senior Software Engineer in the Claims Global Claims Operations (GCO) team, you will join us at the forefront of our claims automation initiatives. Our initial automation efforts (AI 1.0) have already delivered significant annual savings. Now, as we transition to our next-generation automated solutions (AI 10.0) combined with our retail-focused efforts, we have the potential to fundamentally optimize our operating structure.
The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering expertise with modern cloud technologies, DevOps practices, and experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production-grade applications.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Product Strategy & Vision
    • Define and own the strategic roadmap for the Claims Agentic AI Platform and associated product portfolio
    • Establish long-term product vision aligned with enterprise AI strategy, operational transformation goals, and business priorities
    • Identify opportunities to leverage Agentic AI, Generative AI, workflow automation, and knowledge-driven decision systems
    • Translate business challenges into scalable platform capabilities and reusable services
    • Drive product investment decisions based on business impact, customer needs, adoption metrics, and ROI
  • Product Ownership & Delivery
    • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle from ideation through delivery, adoption, and continuous improvement
    • Prioritize product backlog, capabilities, and platform investments based on business value and strategic alignment
    • Define product requirements, user journeys, acceptance criteria, and success metrics
    • Lead cross-functional execution across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Architecture, Operations, and Business teams
    • Ensure successful delivery of platform capabilities, AI services, APIs, knowledge assets, and automation solutions
  • Platform & AI Product Leadership
    • Define platform capabilities supporting Agentic AI, AI Agents, Knowledge Management, Workflow Orchestration, MCP Integration, RAG, and Semantic Search
    • Drive development of reusable platform services that accelerate onboarding of AI use cases across Claims and Provider organizations
    • Partner with engineering teams to define platform architecture, scalability requirements, and operational excellence standards
    • Establish platform adoption frameworks, governance models, and reusable best practices
  • Business & Stakeholder Management
    • Engage with senior leaders, business stakeholders, operations teams, and technology partners to align priorities and product direction
    • Create executive-level communications, roadmap updates, business cases, and investment recommendations
    • Drive stakeholder alignment across multiple business units and technology organizations
    • Serve as the primary point of accountability for platform outcomes, adoption, and customer satisfaction
  • Product Analytics & Operational Excellence
    • Define and monitor KPIs, adoption metrics, business outcomes, platform health, and operational efficiency measures
    • Utilize data-driven insights to guide prioritization and product decisions
    • Drive continuous improvement through experimentation, customer feedback, and performance analysis
    • Establish success measures around automation rates, adoption, cost optimization, productivity gains, and quality improvements
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Ensure alignment with enterprise AI governance, Responsible AI, security, privacy, and compliance requirements
    • Partner with architecture, risk, security, legal, and compliance teams throughout the product lifecycle
    • Define guardrails, auditability requirements, and operational controls for AI-powered solutions
  • Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management, Technology Product Management, or Digital Product Leadership
  • 5+ years of experience leading enterprise-scale platform products or technology portfolios
  • 5+ years of experience defining product strategy, roadmaps, and business outcomes
  • 5+ years of experience working with engineering, architecture, and delivery organizations
  • 3+ years of experience driving executive stakeholder engagement and strategic decision-making
  • 3+ years of experience managing AI, Analytics, Automation, or Digital Transformation initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex cross-functional initiatives across multiple business and technology teams
  • Solid knowledge of Agile product management methodologies and product operating models
  • Proven exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications in Product Management, Agile, SAFe, or Cloud Technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with Agentic AI, Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and enterprise AI platforms
  • 2+ years of experience managing AI platform, data platform, or knowledge management products
  • Experience with workflow orchestration, AI agents, semantic search, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
  • Experience defining enterprise platform adoption and scaling strategies
  • Experience with healthcare claims, provider operations, utilization management, or payer ecosystems
  • Experience working within regulated environments requiring governance, security, and compliance controls
  • Experience with healthcare datasets (claims, eligibility, prior authorization, provider directories)
  • Understanding of clinical or operational workflows (provider calls, documentation, adjudication steps)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), API ecosystems, and modern platform architectures
  • Proven awareness of healthcare data sensitivity and HIPAA-like compliance expectations
