ResponsibilitiesAbout the role
As a Lead Subrogation Specialist, you will oversee the financial and operational aspects of auto and medical subrogation, ensuring accurate reserving, timely deductible reimbursements, and strong recovery outcomes. You will hear first‑party medical and auto damage arbitrations, prepare respondent filings, and conduct PD subrogation evaluations to identify and maximize recovery opportunities.
In this role, you will also manage the day‑to‑day workflow of the subrogation operations, including oversight of email correspondence , coordination with our outbound subrogation vendor, and assist in ongoing communication with adjusters and leadership to support an effective outbound subrogation process. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, using your expertise to drive consistent, high‑quality results.
In addition, you will partner with internal stakeholders to ensure subrogation practices align with broader organizational goals and contribute to a seamless claims experience. You will serve as a subject matter expert within the subrogation process, offering guidance, operational leadership, and support as needed to strengthen team efficiency and recovery performance.
In this role you will:
- Manage subrogation financials, ensuring accurate reserving
- Complete deductible reimbursements, when applicable
- Hear arbitrations for first‑party medical and auto damage claims
- Write respondent arbitrations with accuracy and consistency
- Conduct inbound Property Damage subrogation reviews to ensure we are paying what we owe
- Lead day‑to‑day subrogation operations, including:
- Oversight of the subrogation inbox
- Management of inquiries related to external outbound subrogation vendor
- Ongoing communication with adjusters and leaders regarding subrogation processes
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure subrogation processes support organizational goals and deliver a consistent, seamless claims experience

- In depth knowledge of the insurance industry, with advanced expertise in claims liability and subrogation, specifically in the auto line of business
- Knowledge of how to build lasting relationships with internal and external customers and business partners
- Strong understanding of auto insurance regulatory compliance requirements
- Moderate knowledge of automobile parts, terminology, and repair techniques
- Familiarity in performing inbound PD subrogation reviews with the ability to validate estimate accuracy and ensure appropriate indemnity decisions, including total loss
- Understanding of end to end claim handling processes; prior experience as an adjuster is preferred
- Working knowledge of Guidewire ClaimCenter (preferred)
- Extensive experience with Arbitration Forums and related procedural guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to craft clear, persuasive, and well‑structured case arguments with strong attention to detail
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively for recovery outcomes
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions while balancing risk, policy, and recovery goals
- Strategic thinker with the agility to adapt to change and support continuous process improvement
- Collaboration skills for working effectively with internal teams and external partners
- Advanced analytical and critical‑thinking skills, particularly in evaluating liability, damages, and case evidence
- Working understanding of negligence principles and the evidence types commonly found in subrogation matters
- Computer literacy in a Windows operation environment

Education & Work Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in claims subrogation within the auto line of business required
- Prior experience handling arbitrations (including respondent arbitrations and hearing of arbitrations) required
- Inbound PD subrogation experience, including reviewing estimates for accuracy and negotiating with claimant carriers when appropriate preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Must hold and maintain a current Property and Casualty (P&C) or Personal Lines License in at least one U.S. State required
- AIC and/or CPCU designations preferred
Additional Knowledge and Skills
Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:
Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation

The base range for this role is: $73.500 - $147.000

This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
