We are seeking a Lead Software & Platform Engineer to lead the technical delivery of MetLife Digital and Data Platforms. The ideal candidate will possess prior technical leadership experience in insurance industry, strong development, communication, collaboration, and project management skills, also have hands-on experience in leading complex systems projects using cloud and on-prem technologies with ability to influence people across the organization. You will get an opportunity to work on high impact team with experts who are great mentors. This position will play a critical role in removing barriers between data and activation to enhance MetLife's Technology Modernization journey.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and project leadership to a project team that is building foundational solutions using Azure Cloud platform for MetLife Enterprise functions.
  • Communicates recommended architectural vision, data strategies as well as cloud roadmap strategies and obtain buy-in from key internal stakeholders.
  • Establishes best practices and reusable implementation blue-prints.
  • Collaborates with the product line architect towards solution architecture design, review and roadmap.
  • Enable product delivery through hands-on development and in collaboration with developers, analysts and business to build fully vetted products that ensures that new capabilities are implemented according to enterprise standards enabling enterprise caliber cloud data platform products.
  • Leads project planning activities in an Agile SCRUM environment to define the milestones and activities within a comprehensive project plan to ensure project is on time and budget.
  • Ensure secure, high-quality code across the entire team through code/implementation reviews.
  • Investigating and resolving production management incidents, problems, and service requests.
  • Working with cross-functional teams enabling product delivery.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experienced data engineer in analysis, design, development, delivery and operationalization of digital data products.
  • Hands on experience in Azure PaaS with components like Cosmos, Azure Data Factory, DataBricks, Data Lake/BLOB Storage, Azure Functions, LogicApps, ServiceBus, Event Hub, SQL PaaS, Synapse, KeyVault, Azure ML, Spark, AKS (Preferred), ASE (Preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of data architectures including data lakes, warehouses, marts, lake house, graph, timeseries and in-memory solutions.
  • Proven experience in leading, guiding, and mentoring team members in architecting, designing, and planning out complex technical implementations; Working experience with matrix, cross functional global team members.
  • Partner with business and IT teams to enable delivery of solutions that are secure, scalable, highly performant and governed in accordance with data privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication & inter-personal skills with keen learning mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines showcasing strong accountability.


Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • DevOps practices for CI/CD, release management, and automation using Azure DevOps
  • Git-based repositories such as Azure repos, GitHub, Bitbucket
  • Deep understanding of Service-Oriented Architecture.
  • Understanding with Microservices architecture and designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
  • Proficiency with Python a big plus, Java, C# preferred.
  • Modern Identity and Access Management and general AppSec practices.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (like Scrum or Kanban).
  • Experience with testcase-driven development and continuous testing.
  • Experience around information risk, security, PII, SOX and legal compliance requirements.
  • Experience in managing L1 & L2 support teams & providing L3 support for data delivery pipelines.
