The Role

About this role:

Wells Fargo is on the hunt for a Lead Software Engineer with Generative AI experience, who can build and operationalize innovative GenAI products and capabilities that builds conversational experiences for customers through new capability development through software engineering. You will work with a team of talented engineers while contributing hands on and providing technical guidance, ensuring the team builds high-quality, scalable solutions.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 1+ years of leading Generative AI or "Classical" AI initiatives such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows

  • 5 + years of Core Java experience

  • 4 + years of Spring experience

  • 4 + years of JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) development experience

  • 4 + years of RESTful or SOAP web services

  • 2+ yrs of experience leading high-performing, agile software teams.

  • 2+ years of Microservices experience

  • 2+ years of Kafka experience

  • 3+ years experience with SDLC tools and processes including GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory, Sonar, Maven or Gradle

  • 2 years of experience in developing JUnit test cases

  • 2 years experience in stream processing frameworks like Apache Spark / Flink

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Python and FastAPI experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of test driven application development 

  • Ability to design, develop, and implement large scale/complex software applications

  • Knowledge and understanding of design and development of modern web applications and mobile technologies

  • 4+ years of Agile experience

  • Experience with Redis

  • Knowledge of BDD

  • Strong focus on Generative AI safety and accuracy.

  • 5+ years of AI and ML concepts, including deep learning, natural language processing and computer visio
