The Mission

We're seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our Customer domain team, where you'll build the Scalapay Card that will revolutionise how our customers pay. You'll help drive a critical strategic initiative to increase payment frequency and become customers' top-of-mind payment solution across Southern Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of the Scalapay Card product - a charge card enabling customers to pay now, pay in 3/4, or access flexible payment options anywhere. You'll create scalable solutions that integrate card issuing, payment processing, wallet functionality, and embedded credit features. Working in an autonomous, Agile environment, you'll have end-to-end ownership of projects while collaborating with and mentoring a talented engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for the development team
  • Design and build the Scalapay Card platform enabling pay now and pay later functionality anywhere
  • Develop responsive, intuitive mobile and web interfaces for card management, spending controls, and payment experiences
  • Create clean, well-structured RESTful APIs integrating card issuing partners, payment networks, and core Scalapay platform
  • Drive innovation in card onboarding, activation, transaction processing, and customer controls
  • Implement robust security, fraud prevention, and PCI-DSS compliance measures for card operations
  • Build wallet features supporting multiple payment methods and embedded credit
  • Partner with Risk, Payment, and Infrastructure teams to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance
  • Mentor engineers and establish best practices for fintech product development
  • Ensure quality through comprehensive testing, monitoring, and automation
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver exceptional customer payment experiences
  • Participate in all phases of the development lifecycle
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript, Node.js, relational databases, and CI/CD tooling
  • Experience with modern front-end development practices (responsive design, state management, performance optimization)
  • Proven experience leading software and QA engineering teams
  • Passion for software design best practices and clean code
  • Track record of successful project delivery
  • Experience building payment, card issuing, or fintech products strongly preferred
  • Understanding of payment networks, card schemes (Visa/Mastercard), and issuing processes preferred
  • Knowledge of financial services regulations, PCI-DSS, and data security standards preferred
  • Experience in developing customer facing mobile applications preferred
