Job DescriptionExperian Business Information is looking for an experienced and hands-on Mainframe Lead Developer to lead the development of critical mainframe applications. You help code while guiding the team through solution development best practices, and production support. You will have experience in COBOL development, batch and online systems, scheduling, release management, and end-to-end software delivery in a mission-critical mainframe environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the enhancement of mainframe applications supporting Experian Business Information.
- Perform hands-on development using COBOL and related mainframe technologies while mentoring team members.
- Analyze our requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Improve:
- Batch processing applications
- Online (CICS) applications
- DB2 database programs
- JCL and utility jobs
- Design and troubleshoot complex batch workflows, ensuring reliability.
- Coordinate production releases, deployments, and post-release validation.
- Manage job scheduling processes using enterprise scheduling tools such as Control-M, CA-7, or equivalent.
- Lead code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, security guidelines, and development best practices.
- Collaborate with architects, business analysts, QA teams, DevOps, infrastructure, and production support teams.
- Investigate and resolve production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive solutions.
- Improvement projects related to application modernization, automation, and development processes.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to developers across the team.
- You will report to a Senior Product Owner.

- Lead a team of mainframe developers by providing technical direction and guidance.
- Manage technical solution development estimates.
- Ensure delivery of projects with high quality.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers.
- Coordinate with teams to manage dependencies and deliverables.
- Improve adherence to development standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of mainframe development experience.
- 3+ years of experience leading technical teams or being a technical lead.
- Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners.
- Experience providing engineering support to customer support team to resolve any critical customer issues.
Good to have:
- Experience working in financial services, credit, or data-driven enterprise environments.
- Exposure to modern DevOps practices for mainframe development.
- Experience integrating mainframe applications with distributed systems and APIs.
- Knowledge of IBM z/OS ecosystem and related tools.
