How You'll Make Impact:
- Join our dynamic and innovative team at Xero as a Lead Software Engineer for the US Product division. As a leader in the Small Business Accounting space, we are seeking a highly skilled and talented frontend architect to lead the frontend design and build compelling experiences using best-of-breed tech stack, bringing your passion for delighting customers and deep experience building cutting edge applications and help us build the future of Xero products. In this role, you will lead Xero’s efforts to build a new product working with partners to embed accounting experience into their applications. This is a key strategic initiative for Xero to grow sustainably in the United States. Our ideal candidate should have a strong technical background in UI/UX engineering and a proven track record of driving complex application development, lead and influence broader teams working around you. What You'll Do:
- You’ll work in collaboration with other Xeros to help create and deliver beautiful software to customers, faster.
- You’ll model the standard for engineering excellence at Xero, supporting your team to grow their technical capability and improve development practices.
- You’ll undertake software application development in our suite of products (including new ones), contributing to new or improved experiences for our customers and partners.
- Build for scale and high performance.
- You will guide technical design to ensure implementation of architecture principles and good engineering practice.
- Identify the technical blockers and waste that slow down the team. Work with engineering leadership and delivery teams to identify technical capabilities that need to be grown.
- Maintain in-depth system knowledge across all system boundaries relating to the team’s components as well as hands-on development expertise.
- You'll help build and manage software that solves engineering problems at scale.
- You will be enabled to seek clarity with technical complexities and be able to demonstrate smart ways to simplify.
- You'll be able to make data-driven decisions that will release value early to solve Xero customers' problems more effectively.
- You will lead and drive UI/UX application design and development with modern frontend technical stack in React or equivalent.
- You will guide the quality engineering practices for your team, identifying and resolving challenges to ensure processes and tools are optimized for their context and engineers have the required knowledge and skills. Contribute to and champion Xero’s quality strategy and standards.
- You will promote strong collaboration within a cross functional team, including design, product management. Mentor and coach junior team members.
- You will be a strong contributor to the product vision and drive team planning.
What You'll Bring With You:
- 7+ years experience in UI/UX design and development with web application stack, such as React or equivalent.
- 7+ years of programming experience with at least one application development language, such as Typescript.
- 5+ years of experience contributing to application architecture and design.
- Experience with iframe development is a plus.
- Ability to drive user experience and product experience with design and product management.
- Ability to lead or facilitate discussions on application design.
- Education in computer science or equivalent fields. Able to experiment with new languages and tooling.
- Ability to make code design decisions for all teams’ products Experience in auditing teams’ codebases, aiming to maintain high standards for security, testability, and ability to make changes easily.
- Experience in leading discussions and implementation for scaling products to 2-10 times the number of users. Able to ensure team products meet Xero's various engineering standards.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers across multiple disciplines.
