The Impact of Lead Engineering at Coupa CSO:
As a Lead Software Engineer within the Coupa Sourcing Optimization (CSO) team, you are at the forefront of high-scale algorithmic sourcing. CSO is where massive data sets meet complex optimization solvers. You won’t just manage code; you will lead the technical evolution of a platform that allows global enterprises to run massive-scale sourcing events with millions of data points. Your leadership ensures that our backend remains mathematically robust and our frontend remains performant under heavy data loads.
What You'll Do:
- Technical Vision & POC Leadership: Lead Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives for new product capabilities. You will evaluate emerging technologies and drive the "Make vs. Buy" decision-making process to ensure we build what is proprietary and leverage what is standard.
- Architectural Excellence: Own the end-to-end design of features within the CSO ecosystem, balancing the power of our Java-based optimization engines with a modern, high-speed React and Vite frontend.
- Design Excellence: Champion clean architecture and design patterns. You will ensure that every system—whether a microservice or a frontend module—is built for extensibility, platform-agnosticism, and high availability.
- Sourcing Optimization Strategy: Drive the technical roadmap for Coupa Sourcing Optimization (CSO), focusing on high-concurrency data processing, complex bid analysis, and deep ERP/Sourcing integrations.
- Strategic Mentorship: Systematically break down complex technical information to mentor mid-level and senior engineers, setting the standard for code quality and architectural integrity.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- Backend & Cloud Mastery
- Expert Java Development: 8+ years of experience with Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring ecosystem.
- API & Lifecycle: Mastery of OpenAPI, RESTful service development, and sophisticated service consumption and maintenance strategies.
- Data & Performance: Expert-level MSSQL/relevant database knowledge, including advanced performance tuning and query optimization for large-scale bid data.
- Unit Testing (Backend): Deep experience with JUnit, Mockito, or AssertJ to ensure 100% reliability of business-critical sourcing logic.
- Platform Agnostic: Deep understanding of multiple hyper-scalers (AWS, Azure) and building software that is not locked into a single provider.
- Frontend & UI Architecture
- React & Vite: Expert proficiency in React.js using Vite for ultra-fast development and optimized production builds.
- Component Design: Advanced usage of MUI (Material UI) to create professional, scalable, and responsive sourcing dashboards.
- Unit Testing (Frontend): Mastery of Jest and React Testing Library for component testing, and Cypress or Playwright for end-to-end flows.
- Modern Standards: Strong understanding of Microfrontends, web performance, and WCAG 2.1 accessibility.
- Sourcing Domain: Experience with Strategic Sourcing, Bid Optimization, or Supply Chain analytics is a major added advantage.
- AI & Optimization: Interest or experience in integrating AI/LLM or Linear Programming solvers into SaaS workflows.
- ERP Integration: Familiarity with how sourcing data flows into downstream ERP systems (SAP, Oracle).
