We are currently hiring a Lead Senior Project Manager located in Southern California. This position will supervise, direct, and quality control our team of Project Managers supporting judicial/courthouse renovation projects across the state of California. This is a high-impact, high visibility role leading both internal teams and client resources towards successful project outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct assigned project teams across a portfolio of concurrent capital projects spanning acquisition, performance criteria, and design-build phases.

  • Enforce consistent project controls across the entire portfolio of projects, including schedule format and update cycle, cost reporting, risk registers, change management, submittal logs, and document control.

  • Review and approve deliverables prior to submission to the client; reject and return work that does not meet standard.

  • Monitor performance across the project team and escalate any inability to supply later-phase resources.

  • Conduct periodic performance evaluation of assigned personnel and recommend replacement where performance is deficient.

  • Onboard consultant resources mobilizing in later fiscal years and maintain project continuity and knowledge transfer as resources rotate on and off assignment.

  • Provide consolidated portfolio-level reporting to Facilities Services management, and support Facilities Advisory Committee and Department of Finance reporting cycles.

  • Support preparation of Capital Outlay Budget Change Proposals, budget packages, and planning studies.

  • Mentor and support development of client staff project managers, including any learning or developmental project manager assigned to the portfolio.

  • Coordinate with the other Leads to maintain statewide consistency of process and reporting.

  • Maintain monthly project budgets for current and forecasted expenditures. 

  • Be responsible for monthly billing and projections. 

  • Lead the development of staff through supervisions, training, coaching, and mentoring. 

  • Anticipate issues and help team members and partners avoid and recover. 

  • Develop and oversee RFPs for consultants and contractors. 

  • Develop and facilitate owner consultant, Architect, & GC RFPs. 

  • Observe potential internal/external conflict and implement proactive solutions to mitigate conflict. 

  • Train junior team members with a focus on building technical skills and competencies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Attendance at work during normal business hours.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Experience overseeing multiple project teams (whole program) of various sizes.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain positive client relationships.

  • Ability to maintain monthly project budgets.

  • Experience developing RFP’s for various scopes & providers.

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and training junior team members.

  • Manage and monitor team members' activity in alignment with organizational goals. 

  • Delegate while providing clear instructions and ongoing feedback. 

  • Monitor metrics and course correct as necessary while holding self and others accountable. 

  • Provide feedback to senior leaders and clearly communicate organizational direction to team members. 

  • Build relationships with key internal resources (peers, direct reports, & senior leaders). 

  • Create development opportunities and plans for direct reports and teams; provide ongoing feedback. 

  • Ability to begin to move from project tasks focus to more business mentality. 

  • Demonstrate leadership traits and represent company values in a client facing capacity. 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field required.

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of experience in the construction industry.

  • Minimum five (5) years supervising project management staff or multi-firm consultant teams.

  • Demonstrated experience directing multiple concurrent capital projects at portfolio level, with aggregate program value of $500 million or greater.

  • Demonstrated Design-Build delivery experience as an owner’s representative or lead project manager.

  • Large-scale public-sector capital program experience strongly preferred; California state or judicial branch experience a plus.

  • Familiarity with public capital budget processes, including capital outlay budget change proposals and Department of Finance review, preferred.

  • Preferred Certifications: CCM, PMP, PE, AIA, LEED

The salary range for this full-time role is $132,800.00-$185,933.36 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.

Skills Required
