- Development of thermally or irradiation-curable coating solutions based on siloxane-, acrylate-, PU-chemistries or hybrids to meet the fast-growing need in the Consumer Electronics and Automotive market space.
- Development of protective and functional glass-coating solutions.
- Development of methods and new chemistries for the functionalization of particles and various types of surfaces.
- Independently executes with occasional guidance multiple projects aligned with the business needs and the segment strategy from the product concept to the commercialization stage.
- Executes literature reviews, IP landscape searches, patentability assessments and freedom-to-practice evaluations of new technology concepts and developments.
- Supports the creation of patent applications through planning and execution of relevant laboratory experiments.
- Independently communicates projects results as oral presentations or written contributions (summary/technical reports) to a cross-functional global internal audience and various organizational functions, e.g. the Business Leadership.
- Supports the regional application development team (Application Development Engineers - ADEs) with the application development, performance evaluation and qualification of existing and new developed coating solutions.
- Supports creating product promotion contents for customer visits, trade shows and fairs, industry conferences as well as associations and for industry journal publications.
- Provides professional regional customer support on developed products, including travel to customer sites as needed.
- Assist Application Development in setting up enhanced Coatings Laboratories in India.
The following are required for the role
Minimum Qualification
- University degree (Master) in Chemistry (polymer, inorganic or organic chemistry) with min. 8 years of practical experience in the coatings or glass industry in a R&D or product development role.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a global cross-functional team environment with strong customer focus.
- Demonstrates strong team spirit as well as social and intercultural competency.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
- Very good knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Preferred Qualification
- Preferable PhD in Chemistry with focus on chemical synthesis, additive synthesis, silane synthesis and resins thereof, coating formulation development, surface properties modification and surface analysis, with professional experience in the coatings- or glass industry.
- Experienced in surface chemistries of various types of substrates, especially substrates based on plastics, metal and glass.
- Experienced in organic synthesis.
- Experience in formulation development.
- Experienced in coating application technologies and surface pre-treatment methods.
- Knowledge in the characterization of coatings and surface properties.
- Knowledge in accelerated weathering and performance evaluation of coatings.
