Job Description

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an action-adventure open world game set in a captivating space opera universe and the direct prequel to the 2003 cult classic.

Based on a breakthrough technology driven by the proprietary Voyager engine, Beyond Good & Evil 2 aims to offer a seamless experience of exploration and space piracy across a solar system full of exotic locations, colorful characters and mysteries to uncover, solo or with friends.

Role Objective

As a Lead Quest Designer on Beyond Good & Evil 2, you will be managing a team of Quest Designers.

In collaboration with the Narrative and Design teams, you will participate in and be responsible for the design and implementation of quest arcs and related systems.

Your mission will be to align your team's needs and deliverables with the creative direction of the project and associated constraints. This role reports directly to the Narrative Director.

Recruitment Context

As part of the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2, we’re strengthening our Design team with an experienced profile capable of leading quest design and mentoring a talented team in an international environment.

Key Responsibilities

Quest Design

  • Define the structure, pacing, and emotional arcs of quests throughout the game.
  • Oversee the creation of main and side quests, ensuring variety, consistency, and player enjoyment.
  • Champion a player-centric approach: meaningful choices, impactful consequences, and well-controlled pacing.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of Quest Designers and Narrative Designers.
  • Provide mentoring, constructive feedback, and clear guidance; work with HR to support talent development.
  • Define roadmaps, plan deliverables, anticipate risks, and ensure AAA-quality content is delivered on time.

Cross-team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Level Design, Writing, Animation, Audio, and Gameplay teams to ensure smooth integration of quests into the overall game experience.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all quest-related topics, ensuring clear communication and effective coordination across departments.

Documentation

  • Regularly review and playtest quests to guarantee quality, coherence, and player engagement.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation (quest flowcharts, dialogue outlines, implementation guidelines).
  • Foster a culture of continuous feedback, learning, and innovation within the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Quest/Mission Design on AAA projects in a lead role
  • Proven experience with game editors/engines
  • Experience in open-world games quest design.
  • Experience in team management
  • Strong curiosity and general knowledge beyond video games
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English is a plus.
  • Rigor, adaptability, autonomy, and self-criticism
  • Passion for Sci-Fi and space operas is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications / Nice to Have

  • Experience in writing, scripting, or advanced narrative design.
  • Familiarity with branching dialogue systems and player choice mechanics.
  • Passion for building rich universes and developing memorable characters.
  • Experience working on open-world or RPG titles.

Additional Information

Team 

You’ll join a team with complementary profiles (narrative, world design, game design) working closely with the creative leadership.

You will work closely with Fawzi MESMAR, Creative Director, report directly to the Narrative Director, and you will manage talented designers
