The Lead Project Engineer is a staff position within the Offshore Projects Group (OPG), supporting installation engineering activities across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. This role is responsible for delivering technical leadership and installation engineering support for complex offshore projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and technically robust execution from concept development through offshore operations.

The position is based in Baku (Azerbaijan), with periodic travel across the EMEA region, including offshore assignments as required.

Responsibilities

Essential

  • Deliver installation engineering for subsea hardware across all project phases, including concept development, evaluation, design, procurement, and offshore execution.
  • Prepare and review engineering procedures and specifications in compliance with applicable standards and client requirements
  • Responsible for technical interface with the client as required and produce engineering documentation, technical reports, and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications from client, rules and legislations (DNV, ABS, LOLER etc). and/or governmental regulations.
  • Support offshore execution, including attendance on installation vessels as required.
  • Interface with clients, project teams, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Supervise and support project engineers as required.
  • Support Installation Engineering Manager in recruitment of project engineers.

Non Essential

  • Identify required equipment, support vendor selection, and prepare subcontractor work scopes.
  • Raise and manage Technical Queries (TQs) and Technical Proposals (TPs)
  • Support procurement activities and subcontractor follow-up.
  • Follow up and interface with hydrodynamic and structural department for deployment analysis as required
  • Assist tendering and study teams with method statements, scheduling input, and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with document control, design analysts, and drafting teams.
  • Review product designs and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and System Integration Tests (SIT) as required.

Safety

Ensure that the Safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to so far as is reasonably practicable in order to ensure a safe working environment. Participate in and present during risk assessments (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, HIRA)

Other

  • Carry out work in accordance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems.
  • Perform the assigned tasks with due diligence regarding the Integrated Management Systems on the Company.
  • Eliminate waste of whatever form, to suggest the use of more environmentally friendly substances and practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • The lead project engineer will be responsible for hiring and supervising project engineers in the Baku office.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Structural, Mechanical, Civil or Ocean Engineering)
  • Extensive relevant experience ( minimum 15 years)
  • Experience across full asset lifecycle.
  • Deep knowledge of offshore / subsea systems including pipelines, risers, pressure systems, subsea assets, diving operations.
  • Technical experience and knowledge of structure and deployment analysis.
  • Technical experience and knowledge of lifting operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Report writing and data interpretation expertise.
  • Extensive offshore experience involving installation and diving operations.
  • Ability to support offshore visits and site visits.
  • Ability to interface with clients, contractors and global teams.
  • Ability to influence decisions at project and business level
  • Ability to read, analyze, technical procedures, technical specifications from client, rules and legislations (DNV, ABS , LOLER etc). and/or governmental regulations.
  • Able to perform strategy development.
  • Experience with tendering work.
  • Knowledge of Math CAD, 2D AutoCAD.
  • Ability to travel internationally for work scopes
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport
