Summary Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Lead Product Engineer to drive the design, development, and delivery of business-critical software solutions. This role combines technical leadership, product thinking, and software engineering expertise. The ideal candidate is a senior engineer who can partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects, and business stakeholders to understand complex business challenges, evaluate solution options, define technical approaches, and lead development efforts from concept through deployment. 
The Lead Product Engineer serves as a technical leader within the team, helping shape product direction, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of scalable, maintainable, and high-quality solutions. This role requires strong expertise in PHP, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, and TypeScript, along with the ability to translate business requirements into actionable user stories and technical designs.
Job Responsibilities:  
  • Product & Requirements Leadership
    • Partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to understand business objectives and product requirements
    • Lead requirements analysis sessions and identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement
    • Translate complex business needs into scalable technical solutions and implementation strategies
    • Recommend and evaluate design options, architecture patterns, and technical approaches
    • Ensure requirements are clearly defined, actionable, and aligned with product goals
  • Agile Planning & Story Decomposition
    • Lead the breakdown of epics and initiatives into well-defined user stories and technical tasks
    • Define acceptance criteria and ensure stories are development-ready
    • Facilitate backlog refinement and contribute to sprint and release planning
    • Identify technical dependencies and help prioritize work based on business value and technical impact
    • Provide accurate effort estimates and implementation guidance
  • Technical Leadership & Software Development
    • Lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of web application and backend services
    • Develop robust solutions using PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript
    • Establish and enforce coding standards, development practices, and architectural guidelines
    • Participate in hands-on development while providing technical leadership to the engineering team
    • Conduct code reviews and ensure maintainability, security, and performance standards are met 
  • Architecture & Solution Design
    • ​​​​​​​Design scalable and maintainable application architectures
    • Drive technical design discussions and provide recommendations based on business requirements and long-term product strategy
    • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards and best practices
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems and processes
  • Database & Application Performance
    • ​​​​​​​Design and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database structures
    • Ensure application performance, scalability, and data integrity
    • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across application and database layers
    • Support data integration, migration, and modernization initiatives
  • Mentorship & Team Leadership
    • Mentor and coach Product Engineers at all levels
    • Provide technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and career development support
    • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts for complex production issues
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and engineering excellence
  • Collaboration & Delivery
    • ​​​​​​​Collaborate closely with Product Management, QA, UX/UI, DevOps, and other engineering teams
    • Participate in release planning, deployment activities, and production support
    • Drive quality throughout the software development lifecycle
    • Ensure projects are delivered on time and meet business and technical expectations
Skills and Education:    
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related field
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years of technical leadership, team leadership, or lead developer experience
  • Expertise in: PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Experience designing and developing web-based enterprise applications
  • Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring developers
  • Demonstrated experience leading requirements analysis, solution design, and Agile delivery efforts
  • Proven track record of delivering complex software solutions in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Healthcare technology experience with a demonstrated understanding of healthcare workflows, clinical systems, revenue cycle management, payer-provider interactions, or healthcare operations strongly preferred
  • Experience designing and implementing healthcare interoperability solutions utilizing HL7, FHIR, X12, Healthcare APIs, and data integration frameworks preferred
  • Experience architecting or integrating solutions with major EHR platforms (Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, Meditech, Allscripts/Veradigm) preferred
  • Experience identifying and implementing AI-driven solutions preferred
