The Lead Actuary supervises and leads pricing and experience analysis activities with high autonomy. The scope includes short-term and long-term business mainly for the French market. The role requires a deep understanding and application of actuarial principles in specialized areas of expertise.
ResponsibilitiesThe Lead Actuary is in charge of all activities as defined in the SGL Pricing Process (cf. ICS) which covers all subprocesses of a deal quotation from data collection inc. experience analysis, assumptions setting, model development and analysis, final quote setting to CART reporting.
At Local layer the pricing activity is customer-focused, developing and delivering work to enhance SCOR’s ability to write profitable new business, and does usually include (a) client services like product development and experience analysis, and (b) often is extended by corporate actuarial, finance/reporting and business development tasks.
Duties to fulfil this role include the following:
Market pricing:
Supervise and lead pricing activities by providing reliable and consistent quotes, including risk assessment and process compliance
Be expert on Short Term Business
Lead and develop expertise areas within the actuarial team, ensuring best practices and continuous improvement
Lead cashflows production for the Financial Solutions team’s needs.
Design and implement local pricing models
Advise business functions in product development (pricing, risk, and profitability)
Provide support to business activities (client visits, presentations, solutions, technical seminar, training, ...)
Lead innovative/strategic projects within the macromarket and/or global pricing communities
Experience Analysis:
Use SCOR’s tools (APEX, Extrapex) and R/Python code developed by SCOR
Do some EA studies for death, disability risk
Apply the SCOR methodology to do some Long Term Care studies
Analyzing the clients’ experience within the quotation processes under other actuaries supervision
Help to improve the actuarial assumptions for pricing purposes
Support projects for the development of data pools and client services based on experience analysis
Qualifications
Required experience & competencies
Experience:
- Min 5 years work experience in insurance/reinsurance with a focus on actuarial issues
- Experience with statistical and/or actuarial methods and tools : mostly Excel, VBA, Python and R.
- Experience in Financial Solutions would be a plus.
